Did MAFS Australia's Sam and Chris get married?

Sam and Chris were matched together, and sparks flew at the altar for the new couple, who seemed perfectly in sync. They bonded over being farmers and fitness enthusiasts, sharing similar romantic goals. Sam gushed to the cameras: “We have very similar interests, we almost said the same thing.”

The first tension arose at the end of the night, when Sam revealed he wasn’t ready for children.

Things got even more complicated when Chris had to share the major news of his impending fatherhood. He was expecting one child via sperm donation for a friend undergoing IVF, and another through surrogacy in Colombia. He explained: “I hadn’t planned to be going through both parenthood with my friend and surrogacy at the same time, but that’s how it worked out.”

However, not everything was as it seemed. After two weeks, as tensions slowly mounted, Sam and Chris ended their marriage and decided to leave the show.

Reflecting on the experience, Sam said that rewatching the season has been “frustrating and confronting,” adding, “The biggest thing sitting with me now is the unseen footage… I'm pretty f*cking hurt by it.”

What went wrong between Sam and Chris?

There were several factors behind Sam and Chris’ change of heart.

First, Sam pointed to Chris’ close friendship with fellow MAFS Australia cast member Gia Fleur. “Throughout the whole experiment, Gia was always at the centre of the drama,” Sam said. “So when Chris confided in her as one of his best friends on the show, it did worry me a lot. That’s who he was calling every night for advice on our relationship, which I don’t think would’ve been the best advice.”

Chris, however, disagrees. “Gia didn’t really have an impact on my relationship,” he told nine.com.au. “It was more the issues Sam and I had with each other.”

Financial differences also played a part. Sam claimed one argument — never shown on the show — arose over his finances. “I never once used a coupon, I actually spent more money than [Chris],” he said. “I lived with my best friend — not in a house share like he made out.” Chris later admitted it was a “silly, bitchy comment.”

Sam added that the problems were evident from the start. “I felt like I was being spoken over quite a lot. If you look back at our first commitment ceremony, he talks the whole time.”

Chris, meanwhile, cited a lack of connection off-camera. “Off-camera, I got nothing from [Sam]. We went on one date. He didn’t hold my hand, no affection. He didn’t even know my kids’ names, my mum’s name who came to the wedding, my sister’s name who came to the wedding. When there was a camera in front of Sam’s face, he said all the right things.”

Is Sam going on The Bachelor?

Fans have been campaigning for Sam to become the first gay male lead in the Bachelor Australia franchise, eager to see his love story finally unfold.

“The least we can do for him, after subjecting him to the torture that is being married to Chris on Married at First Sight, is give him his own damn show where he can date like 20 men and pick the one that’s nicest to him,” TikToker Bella Hodgman said.

But don’t start picking roses just yet, as Sam sadly isn’t interested. “Please stop tagging me in this,” he wrote on TikTok.

“I was an anxious wreck dating one guy on television, imagine if I had to date 10 guys at once,” he added. “I’m not doing it.”

That said, he’s open to other reality TV opportunities, like The Traitors or Survivor. “Never say never to reality TV, but I don’t think I want to go through a relationship on TV again,” Sam said.

The fitness studio owner is currently single and still living in Adelaide. He recently shared a throwback photo from MAFS with the caption: “Ya boy is single HMU.”

Where is Chris now?

During the promotion of MAFS, Chris appeared on Today Extra and shared an update on his surrogacy journey. He revealed that he welcomed a daughter in late 2025 with his friends, a lesbian couple, for whom he was the sperm donor.

Chris explained that his daughter “lives with her mother full time,” but he sees her “two or three times a week” and is very involved in her life.

He also revealed that he is expecting another child via a surrogate in Colombia after a previous attempt didn’t work out. “I don’t know what [gender] the next will be. It’s a surprise,” he said. “I’ve got a little girl, and I just hope the next one is a happy and healthy baby. I don’t mind.”

Chris has not commented on whether he is currently dating.
