…Ready For It? Halloween, I mean. No, me neither. If you're looking for Taylor Swift Halloween costumes, though, then you've found your people (me).
From Taylor's OG country days, to red carpet looks, music video costumes and now the Eras Tour outfits (sparkly rhinestone bodysuit I'm looking at you), Taylor has given us so many ‘fits to recreate… it might even make You Need To Calm Down. And if you’re wondering how many Taylor Swift song lyrics and titles I can reference in this article, then prepare yourself.
Swifties know Tay is having quite a year. From the release of The Tortured Poets Department which became Spotify's most-streamed album in a day with over 300 million streams in less than 12 hours (yes, I was one of those streams… okay, maybe two) to the Eras Tour, she's been unstoppable.
The three-hour show has seen Swifites dress up in sequin and fringe dresses and trade bracelets. There have been surprise songs, surprise guests, even a surprise cameo on stage from Taylor's boyfriend Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce. The singer doesn't stop surprising us. I mean, who knows what easter eggs we've missed? I'm officially ready for Reputation – Taylor's Version. The UK leg of the tour has even seen Royal Swifties in attendance, and we've all learnt the chants, right? All of this to say, Taylor has to be one of the most iconic people to dress as this Halloween.
Well, according to Google there was twice as much search in the UK for 'Taylor Swift Halloween Costume' last October than the one before, and, in and amongst the Eras Tour this summer, people have already been searching for the best Taylor Swift looks to wear for Halloween 2024. So I'm predicting there'll be even more Taylors at your Halloween party this year.
Whether you're in your Lover or Reputation era, you want to DIY a Taylor Swift Eras Tour look or you just want to nod to Debut or Fearless with a pair of cowboy boots, there's Taylor Swift Halloween costumes for every Swiftie. Read on for the best Halloween costume ideas – whether it's something last-minute on Amazon or if you're planning a full ‘fit ahead of time, we’ve got you covered.
Here are the best Taylor Swift costumes that will ‘never go out of style’…
Taylor Swift Costume Idea 1:
If you're in your Lover era on tour…
If you were lucky enough to get an Eras Tour ticket, or if like me you've just been re-watching the tour film from home, you'll know that seeing Taylor appear on stage in her Atelier Versace rhinestone bodysuit is enough to give anyone goosebumps, Swiftie or not. The infamous bodysuit, which she's also worn in a red version, isn't the only sparkling Versace fashion piece in her set. She adds a glittery Versace blazer to the ‘fit for her performance of The Man.
You can be bejewelled and powerful. One thing's a constant in both looks, and that's the knee-high silver boots. So if you're looking to really channel Tay's popstar presence, the boots are an essential – and I'd also recommend a rhinestone microphone because, well why not? Heart glasses will complement any Lover sequin and tassel look, too.
Taylor Swift Costume Idea 2:
If you're in your bleachers era… or you're the cheer captain
The You Belong With Me music video gives us two memorable costume options. If you want a low maintanence and very comfy costume, opt for Taylor's Junior Jewels look, complete with plaid pjs, of course, and a pair of glasses. But this costume doesn't come with a cute neighbourhood crush, in case you were wondering. Remember to carry around your own ‘You Belong With Me’ sign, just to really commit to the character.
But if you're feeling more cheer captain than bleachers, go for Taylor's alter ego in the video and wear a cheerleader costume. Even better, team up with your bestie and go as a Swiftie duo in both costumes.
Taylor Swift Costume Idea 3:
If you've got a reputation…
For anyone in their Reputation era, you'll know that snakes are the motif you need to get the look this halloween. Taylor's Eras Tour custom Roberto Cavalli red and black snake unitard (wait, is it a unitard if it only has one leg, and one long sleeve? Asking for the group) has to be the best inspo for a big rep look.
Accessorise your leotard with snake jewellery and a red lip. Taylor is known to have worn the Pat McGrath Liquilust in Elson 4, FYI. Unsurprisingly it's sold out – the Swifties shop fast – but you can sign up to be notified for restock at Cult Beauty. You can also shop the Pat McGrath Labs MatteTrancesame in a similar Elson shade or try NARS' Bad Reputation Satin Lipstick. Wear your hair loose and add your favourite black boots, then you're Ready For It.
Taylor Swift Costume Idea 4:
If you've got a lot going on this era…
I couldn't discuss Taylor costumes and not look at the Red era. When Taylor released Red in 2012, we started to see her shift away from country music and debut more pop-sounding songs like We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and 22.
If you want to create a Red Halloween costume, there are a few essentials. Firstly, the fedora is a must-have, natch. It's become even more solidified in Taylor-lore now that she hands the hat over to a fan during each performance. Next, you can buy slogan tees like Taylor wears in the 22 music video and on stage. The classic choice is the black and red ‘A Lot Going On At The Moment’ tee, inspired by the original video tee but dropping the first word ‘not’, as she has on tour.
There are also other options with ‘We Are Never Getting Back Together, Like Ever’, and ‘Who’s Taylor Swift Anyway, Ew', inspired by other T-shirts the singer's been seen in on stage. Add more rhinestones, just for good measure you know, and red heart glasses. I don't know about you, but I'm feeling this costume.
Taylor Swift Costume Idea 5:
If you're still in your Debut era…
Hey, I don't blame you if you never let the Debut era go. All the OG Swifties know it was an iconic Tay phase. She was just 16 when she released the likes of Tim McGraw and Our Song. Fearless fans will love this look too, as it's rooted in Taylor's country style. The ruffle dresses, the cowboy boots, the curly hair, we love it all. It's also a pretty easy look to recreate.
Cowboy boots are all over the high street right now and you're sure to wear them beyond your halloween costume, trust me. I love this Dia Studios pair in a failsafe white colourway that will go with everything. Get a ruffle summer dress and a Taylor Debut tee – and if you really want to cosplay Teardrops On My Guitar, you obviously need a guitar to finish the look.
Taylor Swift Bonus Costume Idea:
If you're in your couples' costume era…
This one's for anyone in their couples' costume era. Take inspo from Taylor and Travis Kelce and get some Kansas City Chiefs merch. We've seen Taylor supporting her American football player boyfriend throughout their relationship – she always looks great as a spectator whether she's in a Chiefs sweatshirt or a red knit (even her signature red lip coordinates with the team's colours).
Whether you want to dress like you're on the field like Travis, or are in the box like Tay – wow, we've really come full circle from those You Belong With Me bleachers days – you'll be the best dressed couple at the party. River Island currently has a fun Kansas City sweatshirt; wear now for your costume and later for loungewear. Pair with some shorts and team branded wristbands just to really emphasise your support for the Chiefs (okay, Taylor). Or go for a jersey if you want to look part of the team. So High School.
