27 best loungewear pieces for when you just want to be comfy
Featured in this article
The best loungewear is evergreen. Cosy season might be drawing to a close but spring/summer wardrobes call for comfy loungewear just as much as autumn/winter. Whether working from home or running errands cough pilates and iced coffee cough, it'll likely be a sweatshirt and leggings or tracksuit you'll find us in.
Believe it or not, loungewear's popularity is far more mature than we give it credit. Hark back to the early ‘00s, when Paris Hilton was rarely papped in anything but her matching velour tracksuit, and further still to 1918 when Coco Chanel began wearing ‘beach pyjamas’ – a style which was shocking at first, but was soon everywhere in the '20s. Now, loungewear has basically become a whole aesthetic of its own. It's 100% acceptable to don your favourite comfy separates in social environments these days (providing it's done well, of course).
Some loungewear for women is actually far more elevated than your standard grey marl joggers and oversized hoodies, too; so much so that you might even opt for wearing it instead of your ‘normal clothes’.
Take the adidas Originals Firebird Loose Track Pants, for example, which have become a regular go-to for fashion girls in the know and are surprisingly versatile. You only have to glance at the street style set to know you can wear them further than the house. Lean on colour sandwiching: matching your accessories in a contrasting hue to your ‘fit, for a look that immediately looks like you know what you’re doing. We also love the case for adding a heel to your track pants for an effortlessly chic look that's actually so comfortable. Add a blazer and a statement evening bag and no one would know you were curled up on the sofa five minutes before. Who says loungewear can't do day-to-night?
How Glamour editors wear loungewear
The perfect middle ground between staying in your pyjamas and pulling on a pair of high-waisted jeans (especially if your only plan for the day is to sit in the comfort of your own home), loungewear is the kind of clothing that you’ll genuinely look forward to wearing. Always. There's nothing quite like finishing a hard day in the office, getting off your commute to walk through the door and whip off your bra, tie up your hair and throw on the comfiest loungewear set you own. Am I right?

How I tested the best loungewear
With that in mind, I roped in my colleagues on team Glamour to test some of the best loungewear sets, separates and stand-out items to curate the ultimate edit of the best loungewear to shop right now – including designer luxury loungewear, high-street loungewear, loungewear unitards, cardigans and knitwear that doubles as loungewear. I've thought about the trends as well as what will last in your wardrobe. I've also considered how to style the best loungewear so that no one will even bat an eyelid if you wear it out and about on your next running errands day. In fact, they'll most likely ask you where you got it from.
Why you can trust me
A big part of my job is literally to stay in-the-know on the latest from the fashion world, from what trends everyone will be seen in next, to the brands that are worth investing in. I've attended press days, fashion shows and showrooms to see the latest drops, as well as trying on and testing the styles I share. In a conscious bid to showcase what loungewear looks like on varying body shapes, sizes and heights, the team (aforementioned above) tested a few new-in styles for me that you'll see pictured in this article.
