9 best spring jackets that are dominating the fashion world right now
Best spring jackets in this round-up…
This year has, so far, been the year of the best spring jackets. Everywhere you look – be it the city streets of countryside towns – the fashion girlies are all fawning over lightweight layers for the new season. And I am no exception.
As we all know, if you have to ask yourself, “Do I need a jacket?” before you leave the house, the answer is most probably yes (at least when you live in the UK). So you might as well make it the focus of your outfit. That's why I’ve taken it upon myself to go on the hunt for the spring jackets to know – and trust me, they'll make you glad to vacuum bag your puffer jackets away in favour of more transitional styles. You’re in for a treat.
Myself and Sophie Cockett have fallen head-over-heels for the just-restocked Mint Velvet pilot bomber jacket. The most spring jacket of all spring jackets, its butter yellow hue means it goes with a plethora of outfits. See how we both styled it over on TikTok.
Elsewhere, I sent freelance writer Hattie Cotmore out to do some field research (i.e., shopping) to not only find all the key jacket trends ready to shop but also try them on too. And after hitting the shops, having studied the spring/summer 2026 runways for months, it's clear to see you don’t have to have an overflowing bank balance to be able to wear the key new in spring coats everyone is already styling.
But which style to go for? If you’re a fan of the humble denim jacket, then you’ll be pleased to know it’s had a refresh, with classic cuts being swapped out for utility and track styles as well as coming in fun prints. And if you still love the timeless trench coat (who doesn’t?), then there are also so many luxe-looking styles coming from the likes of Arket and some playful alternatives like Damson Madder's reversible design.
On the runway, Toteme made a case for lighter iterations complementing tonal outfits. Last year cropped trenches were everywhere thanks to Bottega Veneta's versions with chic checkered cuffs, a trend that's set to return.
Elsewhere, the cape is back. Alaïa teased statement colours under floor-length capes whilst Jonathan Anderson presented softer styles in his Dior women's debut. The high street has shown you don't have to splurge on designer ready-to-wear to try the trend.
Want the look for less? This H&M piece is elevated with a belt but only checks out at £40. Scarf details are also a nice finish to the style, as River Island knows. If you're opting for a go-to leather jacket, think boxy styles, or switch it up with a patent finish. Suede is also hard to miss this season when looking at spring layers. Whether you're into fringing à la Ralph Lauren and Isabel Marant or a blazer shape fit from Arma, this texture does it all.
Want to know what else we tried on? Expect to see funnel necks on just about everything, and ‘countrycore’ continuing well into the warm-weather months with barn jackets still going strong. These are the 9 best jackets for spring that are about to dominate your wardrobe this year.

The chic funnel neck
If you want to feel chic in spring layering, look no further than the funnel neck. The funnel neck silhouette feels rooted in Phoebe Filo's first collection in 2023. But since then, we've seen it dominate catwalks, from Stella McCartney to Saint Laurent; it seems everyone's necklines are rising.
It's no wonder that we're able to add to basket at a lower price point now, too. Topshop enhance the reliable biker jacket with a versatile funnel neck collar. Hattie loves premium brand The Frankie Shop's houndstooth jacket with a playful elasticated bubble hem that can be worn at varying lengths depending on the desired style. And Georgia Trodd and Sophie Cockett are both head-over-heels for the just-restocked Mint Velvet pilot bomber jacket.

Escape to the ‘countrycore’
Giving the utility jackets from last year an update, the barn jacket is the spring layer that’s made it from the countryside to the streets. With an oversized shape, contrast collar (most likely corduroy) and multi-pockets, the practical-looking style has won the hearts of everyone, including Hailey Bieber and Alexa Chung.
This year, you'll also see lots of quilted finishes to update the style, from the likes of Ganni and COS. It’s not every day fashion meets function, so embrace this style with open arm,s considering it’s not just cotton jackets we’re seeing a lot of, but water-resistant wax styles and ones with quilted lining to keep you warmer. It’s the transitional spring jacket to get, and it’s easy to find all over the high street right now in colours that aren't just tan – why not go for khaki, cream or even pink?

The suede takeover
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock without access to the internet, you will know that suede jackets have been stealing the limelight for quite a few seasons now. If you’ve already invested in one, great, if not, there’s still time as they’re continuing to have us all in a chokehold.
While bomber jackets are a more recent style, basically any spring jacket silhouette gets the seal of approval – as long as it’s suede. So whether you're into a boxy button-down like Hattie found from Jaeger, a cool update on your usual workwear blazer or want to lean into the boho trend with fringing, it's SS26 ready. But make sure to give it a spritz with a suede spray before you leave the house, we all know what the spring weather can be like. Not into the real deal? Rest assured, as there are so many faux suede jackets (try searching ‘suedette’) that are just as good – like this Topshop burgundy jacket, which is currently on sale. Run, don't walk.

The cape effect
Who would have thought something Sherlock Holmes would reach for in his wardrobe would become such a coveted fashion statement? We aren't thanking Sherlock for the cape's newfound fandom, it's really down to Alaïa and Dior's SS26 showcases – oh and Claudia Winkleman on The Traitors.
It's a cut that easily elevates an everyday outfit. This is the one to go for if you want something that will make you look not just put together, but like you've put in way more effort than you actually have. Pull & Bear's short cape is a great alternative to the cropped trench trend if you're looking for a go-to neutral. For something more casual, that's still fashion-girl-approved, you can't go wrong with a wool cape.

High-shine patent
If you loved the patent-leather trench styles that came with AW25, thanks to Chloé and Chanel, then fear not, the trend has had a spring update. Simply switch out your glossy long coats for cropped jackets.
The finish lends itself well to the biker style as seen on this Zara jacket with shoulder tabs, amping up your usual matte leather. Similarly, this Maje panelled jacket that Hattie found on sale is an opportunity to add a sleek finish to any look, day-to-night. If you're looking for a simple cut we've also spotted this Lovers and Friends' collared crop jacket with pretty contrast buttons. The style is just subtle enough to layer over just about anything, whilst still making a stylish statement.

The denim update
The denim jacket has had quite the transformation over the years, going from B*Witched girl band style (aka as tight and cropped as you can get) in the '90s to a lot more oversized in recent years. For 2026, one of the best spring jackets has been given a refresh with brands displaying their own take on the timeless classic. You'll see trucker and utility styles, as well as bold patterns. We're also obsessed with adidas' denim track top as a nod to athleisure.
As an easy way to beat breezy days and liven up your outfit, you'll want to ditch your wool coat in favour of a denim jacket worn over one of your favourite summer dresses or you could even go for a double denim ensemble. While minimalists may want to stick to a classic colour like khaki, you'll find maximalists wearing the printed denim jackets with anything and everything.

The texture to know
We know it's spring but let's be real, we're in the UK and the weather is still very unreliable. If you aren't quite ready to let go of cosy season, this might be your first transeasonal purchase. Warm textures like bouclé and borg can be found on cardigans and jackets alike this season. The ideal layer whilst we're waiting for the sun to make more of a consistent appearance.
Hattie found H&M is set to be a must-visit for the trend. Her favourite was this pretty collared piece. We'd recommend sizing up to wear over your winter knits now and for a relaxed-fit over t-shirts later on warm spring days. Elsewhere, you can't go wrong with M&S or Varley and we have our eye on the TDS Elodie bomber jacket to keep us snug for longer.

Boxy leather
We all love a biker jacket but *gulp* sometimes it's okay to try something new. Softer than her racer sister the boxy cut leather jacket is the style to try this spring. This season these are coming cropped and buttoned up with sleek collars.
If you're looking for your leather jacket to work a bit harder this season this fit will definitely do that. Whether you're dressing up or down a paired back leather jacket will fit in. Don't feel you can't make a statement though. Look to Mango's variety of colours or Maje's side-pocket design if you still want to stand out.

The classic trench coat
A dependable choice when it comes to spring jackets is, of course, a trench. As classic as it is cool, there's no denying the humble outerwear style will be relevant no matter the season, year or even decade you buy it in. With versatility being at the forefront of why we love them so much, you can never go wrong with a timeless beige or black trench, but we do like how a lot of the styles coming through this season have that little something extra.
Arket has gone for cap layering, ASOS Design offers cropped and this Damson Madder trench coat is reversible so your trench can align with your mood. No matter what you choose, just make sure the length is below your knee – unless you're going for one of the cropped versions we've already mentioned.
