Behold, the rise of the polka dot jackets. Polka dots have been inescapable for the past year or so, popping up on everything from midi skirts and tights to romantic dresses. But it seems that, recently, the trend is really exploding when it comes to Spring jackets.
In recent fashion seasons, we've seen the style set step out in polka dotted outerwear. Usually in a funnel-neck bomber jacket situation, since that style has been extremely hot in every shade and pattern. But there's also plenty of dotted blazers and suit jackets, as well as the odd cardigan.
The beauty of this pattern is that it adds some excitement to your outfit, but is also extremely versatile due to its simple and geometric nature. Plus, the colour palette of these jackets tends to be quite neutral: black, white, plus the occasional brown, burgundy and blue.
It's a way to make a statement without making too much of a statement. Plus, at least for me, polka dots have a decidedly summery feel, making me think of '50s halterneck dresses and swimming costumes, or Old Hollywood icons on the French Riviera.
So, as the spring/summer 2026 season approaches, here's how to wear the trend.

Long black skirt/white shirt combo
The polka dot jacket is a fun way to break up an otherwise smart outfit. A white shirt and long black skirt will give the outfit a preppy feel, which is extremely on-trend – whether or not you plan to wear it to the office.
Match the colour
A fun way to style your polka dot jacket would be to wear bottoms in a matching colour. (Or vice versa!) They don't need to have the same pattern, simply matching the shade will bring the look together. This will look particularly fun in shades like red, burgundy, brown, blue… Anything outside your usual black/white.
Pop of red
Red looks amazing with black and white – I don't know why, I don't make the rules. It's a classic combo for a reason. Adding a pop of red, even if it's just your lipstick, will instantly bring the look to another level. Opt for a red skirt if you're feeling it, but ruby shoes or a cherry bag will be just as effective.
Shorts/bodysuit
This one is for the summer months, obviously. Adjust the shape and length of the shorts depending on how much skin you're comfortable showing. Capri shorts – which usually reach to the knee and fit close to the leg – are very on trend. But so are teeny tiny shorts, so small they could be compared to a bodysuit or pair of panties. The “no trousers” look has swept through the runways and street style set, so venture forward if you dare – you can always add tights underneath.
Trench coat and leggings
Trench coats are undeniably on trend, as are leggings. You know what else is on trend? Layering. So pop your polka dot jacket under your trench coat for the ultimate fashionista “I'm just running errands” look. (Bonus points if there's a hood for some added layering.) This might be a look for the early spring or mornings and evenings when it's slightly chillier, since you may not want to layer up in the height of summer. But the cropped leggings or capris on bottom will help balance out the top.
Co-ord set with fun accessories
The easiest styling option on this list – co-ord sets! Always a classic and the handiest look to grab when you don't have time for guesswork, a matching set looks great in polka dot too. It's up to you whether you go for shorts, trousers or a skirt. For extra punch, style with fun accessories like a chrome bag, brightly-coloured shoes, oversized accessories, a fluffy bag… The possibilities are endless.
Polka dot in different colours
This is a way to switch it up a little but still look cohesive. While you may have been taught that clashing prints are a fashion faux pas to stay away from, they can actually be a great way to add some interest to your outfit when styled well.
Stripes
Another clashing print moment! Stripes, weirdly enough, have the potential to look great with your polka dot jacket. The key is to have something holding the two pieces together. If you study the look above, you might notice that the jacket has brown dots, while the skirt has brown stripes. Even though the garments differ in colour, the brown accents make the look feel cohesive.
Beige trousers
Beige trousers are a great piece to have in your closet, since they go with just about anything. Wide-leg, straight-leg or slim-fitting, they are timeless and will carry you everywhere from a daytime outing to the office. (You could even, with the right top and accessories, wear them in the evening.) So, why would it be any different when it comes to the polka dot jacket?
White skirt
A white maxi or midi skirt is another one of those garments that goes with pretty much anything. White is also a decidedly summery shade. Depending on the style of the dress, you can give off a different vibe. A tiered cotton dress that looks slightly worn will give you the bohemian edge that's perfect for summer. A lacy, embroidered or tulle skirt will infuse your outfit with romance.
Jeans
What else is there to explain? Jeans go with absolutely everything, and you likely already have them in your wardrobe.
