It's not just the clothing in our spring capsule wardrobes that needs a refresh; it's the shoes, too. The best fashion trainers are where most of us editors are setting our sights this season, and if we did a deep-dive into why that is I don't think anyone would be shocked.
When looking for the perfect thing to put on your feet – whether it's what shoes to wear with baggy jeans, or how to style a midi skirt – a chic sneaker will always come out on top. They look great and are equal parts comfy. Easy.
Of course, ballet pumps, loafers and even kitten heels remain on our rotations for everyday wear throughout spring, but…all of those can pinch/rub and often require breaking in. Trainers, however, are pretty much the one thing you can take out the box and go.

For 2026, it's looking to be all about the slimline trainer. Where chunky trainers/dad trainers have reigned supreme over recent years (and don't get it twisted, they're still an absolute staple), low-top sneakers are coming in hot thanks to Bottega Veneta, Isabel Marant, Chloé and Dries Van Noten.
According to the Lyst Index 2025, Adidas Taekwondo trainers came in at number two on the list of hottest products for the year, and coming third was another trainer brand, one that's already worn by Emily Ratajkowski and Dua Lipa – Puma Speedcat ballet flat, AKA a cross between trainers and ballet flats. What's not to love?
