If 2024 was the year of the scarf coat, then 2025 was the year of funnel neck jackets – and if London's most stylish dressers know anything, it's that their turtleneck outerwear is not going anywhere for the upcoming SS26 season. Rather, being refreshed.

In keeping with the hottest of Spring fashion trends, the coolest outwear you can wear right now is sculptural and personality-driven; sporty-yet-sophisticated. The funnel-neck jacket – defined as a jacket which features a high neckline or collar; one which grazes the bottom of the jawline and stands to attention – ticks all boxes.

Where did it come from? Of course, the turtleneck has always been part of the cool-girl capsule wardrobe – seen in classic sweaters and tops – but last year, we began to see the outerwear category adopting the high collar on the catwalks. Victoria Beckham showcased the funnel-neck jacket on her AW25 runway, while the boxy silhouette also showed up on the catwalks of smaller brands like Tibi and Toteme. Not forgetting A-line styles at Altuzarra, and shearling-lined iterations presented at Khaite.

In autumn/winter, the funnel-neck jacket went a long way in providing warmth and structure atop layers – but now, we've seen labels like Altuzarra, Alaïa, Victoria Beckham, and Kallmeyer showcase the trend for spring, too. And limitless options are trickling down to the high-street.

Go military with funnel-neck canvas jackets, stick to faux leather and denim, or trade-in your chocolate brown suede jacket for a funnel-neck jacket in a lighter, Spring-ready hue. M&S just dropped a cotton, satin-look bomber jacket, best styled with white barrel-leg jeans and ballet flats (it's only £60 and, given present M&S buzz, guaranteed to sell-out) – while Uniqlo's £49.90 windbreaker, with a distinct funnel neck, is going viral. Elsewhere, H&M has included a padded funnel-neck jacket in its latest Studio drop, while AllSaints' clay jacket features the drawstring waist detail that all of the most flattering releases have.
