Lilac, violet and purple are the colours we're seeing all over Instagram right now
The purple fashion trend that had the internet on a chokehold at the end of 2021 has only been getting stronger. Maybe it's Pantone's influence that we should accredit, having assigned Very Peri as its Colour of the Year 2022. Or maybe lilac and violet are just the mood-boosting hues we're craving in our spring wardrobes.
Since last year saw Bottega Veneta green spread from the catwalk and across the high street in a heartbeat - with all our favourite brands adopting the hue throughout their collections - it's become clear that people are way more adventurous when it comes to colour than they were before. Black will always be the new black, but pops of vibrancy are a warm welcome. Especially during spring/summer.
Unexpected colour clashes are already everywhere, and our our favourite Instagram fashion inspirations have picked lilac as their shade of choice. We are here for the tone that manages to look kitsch, cute, sexy and bold all at once.

When a colour comes into fashion, rather than a shoulder shape or skirt length, it’s far more freeing. If you want to get in on the trend, you can pick whatever works for you. Whether that’s a smart city-proof coat, spring dress or some mules… You can dip into the purple patch as much - or as little - as you want. Start small and try a belt, pair of socks or some sunglasses - or go full on Prince with trouser suit, like Vitaliia or Nicole Ocran.

Violet looks amazing against other energetic shades that really make it pop (@evelilycp has nailed it) - but it also looks sweet with other pastel pieces. Lemon, lime and pink are ideal companions from the softer spectrum. If you are more attached to darker shades, try a violet blouse or cardigan worn with denim jeans.
You could also work a full lavender look with a dress and jacket in the same shade, or clash with different tones of lilac like with this skirt and these heeled sandals. Wearing one colour head to toe is a stylish hack for looking instantly pulled together - even Meghan Markle is a fan of so-called ‘solo saturation’.
