23 mule shoes you’ll want to wear all season
We admit, mule shoes are tricky. They’re not the easiest style of shoe to walk in, but what they lack in practicality they make up in sex appeal.
That click clack sound as you head Out Out is electrifying and something you can never achieve with a classic court, let alone trainers. That sound has the promise of cocktails and dance floor marathons ahead and this spring, backless mules are everywhere. The best mules can be any height from completely flat to clog-like or hitting 110mm upwards – but it's heeled mules that are really having a moment this spring.
Perhaps it’s something to do with the fact that we actually have somewhere to go that is worthy of fabulous shoes? Mules are also a signifier of the wave of Y2K nostalgia washing over the entirety of the fashion industry. As such, mules haven’t been this popular (nor have we had so many options) since the early Naughties. Net-A-Porter stocks over 300 pairs of mules on their site at the time of publication, while ASOS has a staggering 850 options. Mules. Are. Everywhere.
So, how to wear them? Obviously, mules will bring glamour to the ever-reliable formula of jeans and a nice top. They look slick with blazers and cigarette pants. You can make them the focus of your outfit with a dress that shows off your shoes, too.

And we love the fact that anyone can indulge in these sexy shoes, whatever your budget might be. Bottega Veneta kickstarted the mule moment - their terry towelling mules are a fashion favourite - while Manolo Blahnik’s Maysale mules are a cult classic. With a lower heel and elongated point toe they are chic and utterly unique.
Amina Muaddi and Mach & Mach are two brands that have shot to the top of the fashion world’s wishlist - Amina Muaddi’s crystal embellished mules will light up any dancefloor while Mach & Mach’s signature sparkles, PVC material and bow detail mules are pure princess.

On the high street, ASOS (of course!) has an epic selection. We love their satin style in green - the colour of 2022 - and the Hive style, which is lower with a bamboo style heel. See, there is a mule for everyone. Have we changed your mind?
