A crinkle swimsuit is the key to looking expensive this summer

We're calling it. The crinkle swimsuit is the ultimate summer holiday staple you need in your suitcase for your next girl's trip. Versatile, flattering and figure-hugging all in one, this stretchy swim crinkle fabric – sometimes referred to as popcorn style – has become the go-to when it comes to summer swimwear, and I'm here to tell you it's not going anywhere.
When it comes to the best brands to know when shopping the crinkle swim trend there's one that I always go back to: Hunza G. The cult brand is known for its sleek silhouettes and crinkle fabrics with a fun nod to '80s and '90s style. The brand offers an array of styles from a classic squareneck swimsuit to triangle bikini tops. And whether you're a neutrals girl or love the bubblegum pink colourway that's become synonymous with the style, you're sure to find something in your go-to hue. In short, when I think crinkle swim I think Hunza G.
The brand has just collaborated with heritage fashion house Burberry for, dare I say, one of their chicest collections yet. Whilst on the surface a surprising collab – one is known for dressing women for the British rain and the other for sitting under the summer sun (Aperol spritz in hand optional) – I have to tell you it's giving ‘cool girl’ on the coast. The limited-edition collection brings together Hunza G's signature silhouettes and Burberry's distinctive colour palette, finishing cozzies with a Burberry Check trim. They even have Simone Ashley and Alva Claire fronting the campaign. I'm so here for it all.
They aren't the only brand to know, of course. Tried and tested high-street brands like Nobody's Child and & Other Stories, alongside premium names like bond-eye and Cleonie Swim we've spotted on Free People this year, are all jumping on the trend, proving that if you're going to treat yourself to a new one-piece swimsuit or bikini this year, it ought to be textural.
Our favourite thing about this trend? Seersucker swimwear – of the cozzie variety, in particular – serves a far larger purpose than originally intended. Styling them as bodysuits to sit underneath your favourite pair of denim shorts or jorts, linen trousers or even baggy jeans make them a staple piece for your summer rotation. You can go from beach to bar with just an extra layer and your flip flops.
We've also found that crinkle swim styles allow brands to create a more size-inclusive experience, with plus size swimsuits being – as they should – available in a wider range of places. Aforementioned Hunza G prides itself on being a one-size-fits-all brand, and the curve friendly cuts are certainly ones to check out. I've also seen some great Curve pieces on ASOS from the likes of South Beach.
Obviously, you don’t need more than a few dollops of SPF – and a sun hat – to go with your crinkle costume, but consider a pair of sliders/sandals, a beach bag or basket and a midi summer dress that matches its hue as the ultimate accessories. We’ll see you by the pool (or in the park).
Head this way for modest swimwear and over here for maternity swimwear and the best tummy control swimsuit.
