23 petite clothing brands that women under 5ft 4 should have on their radar
If you're short, you'll know that shopping for the best petite clothing brands is so damn tricky. No doubt you've found yourself looking through all the online clothing stores to find barely anything that'll suit your smaller frame. It's something us petite girls have put up with for many years, but times are changing – and so are the petite girl offerings… at last, right?
So how do you know if you're actually ‘petite’. Basically, it defines anyone who's height is 5ft 4 inches, or below. Which is actually quite strange considering (according to the Office of National Statistics) that the average height of women in the UK is actually 5ft 3in. So, why is petite clothing so hard to find when it technically shouldn't be a 'specialist' section in the shops at all? Instead, it should be the the standard. But who are we to argue?
Featured in this guide:
All we can do, instead, is hunt high and low for all the clothes that petite girlies actually can wear, and no doubt you're about to discover a whole host of brands that have dedicated petite sections you may have been clueless about. And how did we find them? We roped in two freelance fashion editors who are petite themselves. Harriet Davey is 5ft 4 so sits just on the cusp of being able to shop in the petite and regular sections, and Hattie Cotmore is also 5ft 4 but prefers to shop from petite-only labels where she can.
Why you can trust us
Harriet and Hattie were both commissioned by Senior Commerce Writer Georgia Trodd because, while she's an expert in all fashion content, she's 6ft tall. So when it comes to petite brands, she's less au fait. She thought it best to get the opinions and intel of people who actually have experience in this area, as representation and inclusivity is of the utmost importance to her.
How we tested the best petite clothing brands
Together, Harriet and Hattie have curated an edit of all the incredible petite pieces that are about to make up your spring wardrobes from brands they themselves shop at. So whether it's occasionwear you're looking for (from bridal and bridesmaid dresses to wedding guest outfits) or you're just wanting to top up on the essentials – including T-shirts, blazers, knitwear, wide-leg trousers and even swimwear – hold on in there petite people, as you're about to have a long wish list.
“I'm adamant that the likes of Zara and Mango design all their clothes with taller women in mind. When I've tried on trousers before, they're so long, I could wear them above my boobs. And yes, I've still bought some wide-leg pairs with the decision to hack off the hem myself to make them work for my shorter legs. And as a stylist, my stitch gun (basically the best thing you can ever buy on Amazon, here) along with safety pins and hemming tape are a godsend to me. But of course not everyone has these to hand, it's part of my job, so I do feel for a lot of women who deal with this shopping struggle without a styling kit,” says Harriet.
And it seems Harriet isn't the only one taking matters into her own hands, as Hattie has also got creative to make clothes fit her better, “luckily for us petite women there are now more options on the high street and beyond for our smaller silhouettes. So we can put the scissors down – unless you're into the raw hem look in which case I'm all for some fashion DIY.”
In the A-list world, we assume petite celebs have a seamstress on speed dial to alter any clothes that don't fit perfectly. But, that's not to say the likes of Zoë Kravitz and Kim Kardashian (who are both apparently around 5ft 2) don't have the same issues as us mere mortals. With both celebs opting for heels in order to gain those extra inches, this is of course a way to ‘fix’ the issue of jeans, midi skirts and dresses being too long, but we would of course just prefer to swerve these issues and give a little more attention to the petite brands that are thinking of us short gals.
“I tend to either opt for brands that I know cater for those with shorter legs (shout-out to H&M) or buy from ‘specialist’ petite edits that know what us short queens need. Personal favourites here include Reformation and Topshop who offer petite ranges that don't compromise on style. I'm not asking for much, just a pair of trousers that don't have to be rolled over several times at the waist to prevent a trip hazard – and don't get me started on the fear of walking down the aisle in an unaltered bridesmaid dress. Thankfully Coast now have us covered when it comes to wedding guest looks,” Harriet adds.
“While I love that the oversized fit has proved itself a street-style favourite, clothes that swamp a smaller body just don't look chic. No one wants cuffs that hang awkwardly over your hands or fitted shirts that drown your frame – wearing clothes that fit properly is a shortcut to looking elevated. A ‘fit check just doesn’t hit the same if it doesn't actually fit. But it seems unfair that being petite means missing out on the trends,” Harriet continues.
And when it comes to trends, Hattie has some new season advice on what to look for this spring “romantic lace looks are also not going anywhere this season and whilst you might think being petite means steering clear of pretty maxi skirts I'm here to tell you that's not true. Enter brands like: M&S. Thanks to their length offerings, I can't wait to style this lace skirt with everything this spring, from tees and trainers to knits to new season sandals, I know I'll make this style work overtime on my petite build.”
While we're about to tell you all the petite clothing brands we actually rate (there's 23, would you believe?) there are a few things you can do when shopping online to judge the fit. The first being to look in the product description to see the model's height, and make a more educated guess as to where the item will sit for your height. Another is to look at reviews. Often people will be very vocal about trousers are too long, too short or if they had to size up or down to get the right fit.
Anyway, back to the best petite clothing brands that will make sure your wardrobe only contains the items that actually fit you. And the items we have firmly on our spring/summer 2026 wish list…
1. ASOS
You already know that ASOS stocks almost every brand on the high street, but you might not know that the brand's own label, ASOS Design, also has a petite section. With hundreds of pieces all in one place, it's the destination I always rely on when it comes to occasionwear – especially wedding guest looks, like this ruffle maxi dress – along with wardrobe staples such as wide-leg trousers (I love this cool girl khaki pair) that won't need to be folded several times. Everything also runs from sizes 2-16, so it's petite-friendly for those who also need a smaller dress size.

2. Whistles
A fresh launch a few years back, I was beyond thrilled that Whistles decided to bring its contemporary, cool styling to petite women – in sizes 4-20 (yes!) made from considered fabrics. There isn't a vast range but I'd rather see an excellent edit of pieces – think petite-frame outerwear (I have this leather jacket and can confirm it's incredible) and well-fitting denim and jumpsuits that'll suit every upcoming occasion. This style has all the joy of wide leg jeans with the fuss-free addition of not having to even think about your top half – I'm sold!
3. Lounge
When it comes to dressing down, Lounge has become a go-to. Their trousers come in regular and petite lengths and are sized from XS to XXL. So whether you're looking for your next pilates leggings or knitted trousers for the sofa or the airport, Lounge has you covered. I'll be wearing this slouchy cream pair with a vest top or T-shirt for a relaxed new season take on spring dressing.
4. Free People
Not just for those who like a bohemian vibe, Free People is also one of the best places to find petite denim, especially for women on the search for petite jeans. Whether it's a straight leg jeans, barrel-leg or wide-leg, there's basically every jeans style you can imagine in either regular or short lengths – mainly in waist sizes 24-33 which is pretty good for the high street. These voluminous silhouettes are so 2026.
5. Boden
Boden is one of those brands that I often overlook, but after having searched through the petite section recently, I'm unsure why. With over 200 items that can be bought in petite or regular – most in sizes 4-22 – I just know that so many fellow fashion editors (no matter their height) will be wanting to get their hands on this checked detail trench coat. And with pastels and prints being key for spring, I would grab this shirt in two or three sizes up and style with wide-leg trousers over a tank top for the office. Because yes, us petite girls can also embrace the oversized silhouette – we've had to for years when the petite offerings were few and far between!

6. Reiss
A go-to when I want looks that feel effortlessly put together, the Reiss's Petite offering – which is designed for women under 5'3" – just never fails to impress. In sizes 4-16, there's just nothing quite like the quality you get from the tailoring at the high street hero. And with shorter people in mind, there's something even better about buying suiting that you know will fit without a seamstress needed after you've bought it. I love a co-ord and this wavy trim wide-leg trousers and crop top (perfect for us petites) is coming come with me. Actually, I'll get the pink trouser suit while I'm there, too!
7. Karen Millen
Designed for women under 5'3", Karen Millen Petite carries the same luxurious and sleek mood from its mainline through to the petite options, available in sizes 4-16. I particularly love the tailored workwear, the sleek silhouettes of the mini dresses, midi dresses and maxi dresses and the co-ords. Plus, I've worn a Karen Millen petite dress as a wedding guest outfit on two occasions and I've never had so many compliments.

8. Coast
For brides (this ivory mini dress with sheer detailing is so chic), bridesmaid dresses, wedding guest looks and statement pieces and fancy 'fits in general, Coast is a must shop. The petite collection comes in sizes 4-18 and after trying on several dresses for upcoming bridesmaid duties, I can confirm that even the maxi dresses are the perfect length – no heels will be getting stuck in these beauties, and no bridesmaids will be tripping down the aisle, phew.
9. Topshop
Ok, talk about iconic. Topshop Petite is the ultimate one-stop shop that I've relied on countless times – mainly because it's on ASOS so I can get that next day delivery. While I also always end up finding everything from a great mini dress to a new wedding guest look, it's the wide-leg trousers, jeans and basic tops and T-shirts I'll always rave about. Why? Because the leg lengths are always perfect, and they're in sizes 4-18. From basics to more fancy dresses and heels, we can always rely on Toppers to come through with the best new season looks.

10. Nobody’s Child
Known for their flirty, fun dresses and cheerful array of prints and patterns, Nobody's Child focuses on sustainability in their fabric choices. Their petite dresses come in sizes 6-18 and are cut for women 5'3" and under. But as someone who is an inch taller than this, I can still confirm they'll also be the perfect length for those who are also slightly above the ‘average’ petite size guide. I have my eye on this retro mini dress to wear and this sleek short sleeve blazer to style with Bermuda shorts and ballet flats throughout spring/summer.
11. Abercrombie & Fitch
I'm so impressed by everything at Abercrombie & Fitch recently, and of course this includes the petites offering, too. The collection comes in sizes XXS-XXL and virtually everything comes in three lengths, catering to a wide range of body types and making sure dresses of all kinds will fit to perfection. Can we just take a moment for these throw-on-and-go styles that you're about to rely on all summer long? And yes, the longline white style has pockets!
12. Reformation
An admirable brand when it comes to sustainable fashion, Reformation has a dedicated ‘petites’ range. And I would go as far as to say it's one of the best petite ranges out there, ever. The edit runs in sizes 4-16 and it's the dream destination for considerately made garments that think about the planet in their production as well as the perfect fit. Their offerings mean I can jump on trends like the fashion set's beloved silk trousers without worrying about alterations. Petite and chic – no wonder this satin maxi dress with tie-neck detail is selling out already, it's the perfect wedding guest dress.
13. River Island
As a big fan of the great British high street, I will always back them by saying they have the best petite clothing options. Who else do I love? River Island is one of my faves for everything from occasionwear and wardrobes staples to on-trend pieces to elevate your wardrobe. If you need further proof, just look at these glossy red barrel-leg trousers and this beige maxi dress (in sizes 4-16). Petite collections don't get much better than this!

14. Miss Selfridge
The classic high-street brand from the noughties was a gateway to my fashion habit, and now in my 30s, I still rate it when it comes to the best petite clothing. Which is why I'm glad Miss Selfridge is back on ASOS serving super sweet, trend-led pieces like these wide-leg trousers (see how they're the perfect length to show off your shoes) or this blazer with the detail that's dominating the year (a cinched waist) Miss Selfridge really has ticked off all the seasonal trends, and the dedicated petite offering comes in sizes 4-16.
15. H&M
H&M doesn't have a dedicated petite line, but as someone who shops there frequently, I would say it's one of the best brands for trousers that won't swamp petite frames. Basically, I've bought so many pairs and haven't once had to have them turned up once. To know for sure, I recommend looking at the model image to see where the trousers sit on them, and check the description for their height so you can get a judge. With loads of cropped tops, jumpers, cardigans and T-shirts, it's super easy to find the perfect fit for these, too. Basics? Sorted.

16. Everlane
Best for sustainable basics and classic wardrobe builders, you won't find any crazy trends at Everlane, but that's why it's so reliable when it comes to petite offerings. Head to the timeless denim edit and you're guaranteed to find some jeans that come in shorter lengths – look out for the ones with a 26.5inch inseam.
17. Next Petite
Loved for so many years, Next will always be one of those brands that you just know has great everyday denim, tailoring and even swimwear. And when it comes to the petite range, everything from T-shirts, vest tops, joggers and wide leg jeans can be found in shorter lengths, too. Most jeans also run in five lengths – short, regular, long, X long and XX long, in size 6-24.
18. Marks & Spencer
Well done M&S for remembering that women can be petite in height and plus size in dress size at the same time. Dresses (get them in short, regular and long lengths) and a lot of their jeans are available in petite sizes 6-24 – I love to see it. And while a lot of petite sections has wide-leg trousers in different lengths, it's rare to find a brand thinking of different lengths for coats and jackets so all hail M&S for having this timeless trench in both petite and regular lengths.

19. RIXO Petite
I've always had a soft spot for RIXO ever since it launched in 2015, and I still feel the same over 10 years later. From wedding guest dresses to mother of the bride dresses, summer dresses and all kinds of other occasionwear, they've got you covered. Even if you're short. And, as the brand says itself; “they’re not just cropped – every seam and stitch has been refined so the proportions are exactly right,” so you know they're worth the extra spend.
20. New Look
New Look's petite clothing range comes in size 4-16, and while they're managing to tick off every trend for new season. The prices are some of the lowest price points on the high street where petite styles are concerned, and I just love how the jackets sit at the right spot on your hips, the midi skirts are just the right length and jeans don't bunch at the bottom. Shopping petite doesn't mean avoiding the trends, and this chartreuse green midi dress and wavy co-ord prove it.

21. Warehouse
Warehouse offers petite fashion cut for women 5'3" and under, in sizes 4-16 and everything onsite right now is ticking off this season's trends – particularly the dresses. No wonder this polka dot mini dress and ditsy floral midi dress are bestsellers right now. Whether it's brunch with the girls or a wedding guest look, this petite clothing line is one not to miss.
22. Bershka Petite
Beyond basics, this petite clothing brand runs from sizes 4-16 and caters to a more weekend-y, casual vibe. This spring the denim is bound to be a TikTok sensation, and the size guide on their site shares exactly how long the leg lengths are for each size item. The jeans are available in petite, regular and tall, making them an instant hit on the high street and I also love how joggers have been given a fresh feel this season with the barrel-leg silhouette.

23. KLAYD
Championing every body, KLAYD's founder Paula Anselmi is actually petite herself – so you know she's got you covered with a range of basics. Paula has said her favourite styles include the scoop neckline pieces, as they're perfect for making your torso look longer than it is, and after trying them out this year, I agree. Literally some of the best basics I've ever worn.
