Espadrilles are undoubtedly the footwear hallmark of each and every beach season, but sales for the canvas kick have skyrocketed to unusual heights over the past week – all thanks to none other than Jennifer Lopez.

Yep: J.Lo’s recent Ben Affleck reunion confirmation post drove the internet wild – but not just because of that Ben necklace and her insane tan. Her footwear sent fans frantic, too – with Klarna revealing that espadrille sales spiked by a staggering 53% in the days after she wore them.

The 52-year-old wore a pair of hot pink espadrilles – reminiscent of this £85 pair of fuchsia Castañer espadrilles (don't sleep on them) – paired with a matching bikini and beach cover up combo to break the news of her Ben Affleck reunion, leading to a huge surge in demand for the summer shoe.

Fret not: if you're not making like J.Lo and jetting off to somewhere altogether more tropical than the UK this summer, you can still get on board with the trend. 'Cos luckily, espadrilles are a perfectly viable footwear option for occasions where sand and see needn't be involved.
