Victoria Beckham’s AW22 collection has given us 5 styling ideas to try right now
Fashion designers around the world have just wrapped up their Autumn 2022 presentations. Whether a fashion film, full-blown catwalk show or through intimate appointments, next season’s *lewks* are sending out a clear message: it’s time to slip out of sloppy lockdown mode.
We’re so ready for the new season but, obviously, it’s not going to be in store until later in the year. Frustrating? Not really… If you look closely at the collections there are a whole host of styling tips to adopt right now. Victoria Beckham’s collection has given us plenty of inspo. Read on for the best ways to update your wardrobe – without buying a thing – right now. (Although, of course, when the clothes actually hit the rails our debit cards will be more than ready!)

1) Mix several shades of the same hue in one outfit for a coherent look
Dressing in one colour head to toe is a shortcut to looking instantly styled, something VB knows all about. For her Autumn collection, she’s slipped a khaki wool coat over an emerald dress (and carried with a matching bag) plus tights and a polo-neck in the same luscious turquoise shade. The brighter tones look incredibly polished teamed together, as they’re only a few shades apart, and adding a khaki coat – instead of something red or burgundy - keeps everything looking cohesive and devastatingly chic.
2) Make your dresses work trans-seasonally
There is no point having a stack of delightful summer dresses sitting in your wardrobe for most of the year, because it’s too cold to wear them. Find a polo-neck in as close a shade to the print, colour or pattern on the dress then layer them up to get maximum wears from your wardrobe. It’s a sustainable choice to wear your clothes as many times as you can, too.
3) Switch your suit blazer for a bomber jacket
Collectively, it seems that we are more than a little bored of loungewear as skirt suits made a resurgence on the catwalk, along with the classic trouser suit. But we’re not ready for a totally tailored experience just yet. VB has given this skirt suit a more relaxed edge by choosing a bomber jacket instead of a basic blazer. Baby steps. Bombers also look, er, the bomb, with jeans and trainers on the weekend.

4) Go bold or go home
We flagged it last summer – printed denim is having a moment. If you feel that wearing jeans is just for the weekend, may we present the printed co-ord? VB’s printed denim shirt is tucked into high-waisted, belted jeans for a sleek silhouette that is just as smart as a shift dress.
5) It’s all in the details
When you look at the individual pieces in VB’s collection, she’s really honed in on staple items and cool classics that will form the building blocks of any wardrobe. But, along with the little twists in silhouette or shade that elevate them into this-season-specials, look at the styling. These split hem trousers are worn extra long and pool over the shoes. There are polo-necks under every look and belts sit high on the natural waist.
This is the Autumn collection so it won’t be in store until later in 2022, but with a few clever tweaks of your own current pieces (and perhaps a judicious purchase from our edit of key VB styles below) you can style it like Beckham, right now.
