Blake Lively's fashion fail in this unearthed Gossip Girl clip is literally all of us
Even though Gossip Girl first premiered back in 2007 – can you believe that's 13 years ago?! – the show offered just as much timeless fashion as it did salacious drama.
The incredibly popular teen drama based on the book series by Cecily von Ziegesar spawned tons of iconic sartorial moments over its five year run, from Serena van der Woodsen's fun, carefree style to Blair Waldorf's preppy, polished look. GG's costume designer Eric Daman dressed the cast in looks straight from the runway, creating a non-stop carousel of fashion moments.
The show’s last season was probably the biggest show-stopper, when Blair Waldorf wore an epic Elie Saab spring 2012 couture gown for her impromptu wedding to Chuck Bass in Central Park.
Blair's was the epitome of Upper East Side style, and fans of the series stocked their wardrobes full of capes, coloured tights, blazers and – of course – headbands (Blair would love the accessories offering in Zara nowadays).
Serena's looks on the show were said to be 'inspired by Kate Moss' – that is, she mixes contemporary pieces with vintage-style finds, which lends her more of a boho chic look with an alternative edge.
Whosever style you coveted the most, fans quickly became obsessed with the show's trend-setting fashion, and most of us had at least one (read: 10) pieces of Gossip Girl-inspired items in our wardrobes.
Indeed, we are clearly still just as obsessed today, with fans recently going wild after noticing this fashion faux pas courtesy of Serena. If you look closely at the video that's sweeping TikTok, you'll notice that in the second scene, she's wearing joggers under her designer dress. She is literally all of us on our Zoom calls RN.
LOL.
Though some of the show's looks haven't aged too well – we're not racing to snap up one of Blair's chunky, plastic waist belts or a pair of shockingly-bright tights a la the Constance girls in the summer sales -there are definitely more sartorial hits than misses.
So, in honour of one of our favourite TV shows and all the fashion inspo it offered, here are some of our favourite looks from Gossip Girl that we'd happily wear today.
xoxo!
