The headband is autumn's chicest accessory, just ask Bella Hadid
We love an autumn hair trend, from voluminous '70s layers to cinnamon brunette shades we've got our cuts and colour down, as for this season's hottest accessory? The headband is back in.
We saw it at Dior AW22, where models wore delicate crystal alice bands. Roksanda accessorised outfits with black ribbon headbands and David Koma brought back the '90s zigzag comb headband.
As for the trends latest disciple? Bella Hadid served up a Preppy Girl Era-meets-Rockstar Girlfriend look, wearing a simple black headband, toughened up in a leather finish – with matching leather outfit ofc – while in Paris for fashion week. Proof that the school girl accessory doesn't need to feel too prim or cutesy.

In general, as we lean into autumn, hair accessories are emerging as a major trend. And if the runways, red carpets and TikTok are anything to go by, we should really focus our attention towards these often-overlooked pieces pronto, paying particular attention to the humble headband.
If up until now, you’ve just shoved in a bobble when your hair's getting in the way, or popped a few hair grips in when you’ve gone longer than you’d like to admit between washes, it's time to reconsider. This season, barrettes, bows and headbands are all the rage.

WHY WE LOVE IT: Undoubtedly the chief headband trend right now, these are chic and fun but also fiercely flattering - adding a voluminous statement to even the simplest haircut.
2. EMBELLISHMENT
WHY WE LOVE IT: Because it's OTT. Duh. But also because it adds a serious zhush to even the most casual look, rendering getting ready post-lockdown - when inspiration is running a little dry - a real breeze.
3. WRAP
WHY WE LOVE IT: So Clueless. So 90s. Although rather than pushed back to the middle of your head, keep it modern by positioning it at the very front of your hairline.
4. VELVET
WHY WE LOVE IT: Remember those velvet headbands with your name on that you were obsessed with a couple of decades ago? These may not (necessarily) be personalised, but they're inciting serious nostalgia.
5. GO YOUR OWN WAY
WHY WE LOVE IT: For the freedom. Plaited, feathered, or printed - this one's for the braver headband warriors who don't like to follow trends. (Apologies that we just dubbed this a trend in itself...)
