Autumn has landed, and with a new season comes the desire for reinvention. So we've tapped the top hairstylists for the autumn hair trends they predict will dominate in 2025.

Unsurprisingly, the bob is still reigning supreme. But this year, the spotlight is on soft, airy textures and playful flicks rather than sharp, angular shapes – plus the much-loved bell-bottom bob is back, mirroring fashion's continuing love affair with all things boho.

Face-framing fringes and feathered layers with an emphasis on healthy shine and natural movement are also set to go stratospheric as the temperature drops.

Ahead, GLAMOUR has pulled together the top autumn haircut trends 2025 to add to your mood board…

The rodeo bob

“Bobs are evolving for autumn/winter 2025,” says Melissa Timperley, celebrity hair stylist and founder of Melissa Salons. “They're longer, looser and more layered than before." Case in point: the ‘rodeo bob’, with its blown-up silhouette.

"The rodeo bob steers clear of looking too neat and too polite by embracing an airy texture and fluffy volume. Sexy, playful, bold and with a little attitude—the rodeo bob is all about movement.”

Pro styling tip: “Apply salt spray through damp hair, then air-dry with your fingers for lift and separation. Finish with a spritz of texturising spray to keep it touchable, not stiff. The goal? A bob that looks like it caught a warm breeze—undone, yet intentional.”

The Tinkerbelle crop

“Soft, pretty and distinctly feminine, the ‘Tinkerbelle crop’ is proof that short hair can be light and delicate without feeling dated,” Melissa notes. "Keep a little length at the nape so it can flick upwards. That small detail transforms it to fashion-forward, giving it movement, charm and femininity.”

Pro styling tip: “Work a pea-sized amount of lightweight wax or cream into the ends, pinching them upwards to create that flick. Avoid heavy products—this cut is about airiness, not weight.”

The halo fringe

“The standout cut of the season is going to be the ‘halo fringe’,” predicts Melissa. “Seen on country singer Peytan Porter, it curves around the face like a halo, creating instant lift and movement, as well as contouring the face. The appeal is in its effortlessness: it looks just as chic styled smooth as it does with a lived-in texture. Universally flattering, endlessly versatile and designed to frame the face—it’s the fringe set to dominate 2025.”

Pro styling tip: “Blow-dry sections of your fringe forward, letting them curve softly around the cheekbones. Finish with a mist of shine spray for that expensive-looking gloss.”

The chixie

Meet the ‘chixie’, a portmanteau of ‘chic pixie’. “This 70s-inspired cut is perfect for embracing natural curls,” says Sam Ashcroft, principal stylist at Josh Wood Atelier. “More controlled than cherub curls – a.k.a baby-fine spirals resembling a young child's – but less precise than a pixie cut, the chixie has an undone, natural shape. It's versatile, soft and feminine and easy to wash and go, making it perfect for those with curls who want a quick style. If you have textured hair, you may want a longer chixie so your curls can really show off.”

Pro styling tip: “The chixie can be worn forward with curls falling over the face or slicked back. Make sure to use a good shampoo and conditioner that defines your curls, plus an oil to keep curls hydrated.”

The varsity bob

“The ‘varsity bob’ is a choppy, chin-skimming bob with subtle layering and a centre parting," says hairstylist Tom Smith, who coined the trend. “It's polished but never prissy and carries a cool collegiate energy – perfect for a post summer update. It's youthful without being childish, and preppy without being stiff. This style has a desirable, undone movement that feels cared-for yet incidental. It suits anyone wanting structure with movement and is especially flattering on oval and heart-shaped faces.”

Pro styling tip: “Ask for invisible layering through the ends. Then use a light styling fluid for flicks and separation that look accidental, plus a texture spray to finish.”

The curly butterfly

This autumn hair trend might seem familiar. A butterfly cut is typically a layered style with bangs that feather out to look like wings. But add in curls and this haircut takes on a whole new personality.

"The curly butterfly cut really emphasises natural curls, making the hair appear big and full,” says hairstylist Chlöe Swift. “A long base length is needed for the shag layers, which are short enough to fall forwards onto the face like a fringe, to stack on top."

Pro styling tip: “Gel is crucial in defining the curls, so be sure to apply this before diffuse drying. Then apply a hair oil and clap your hands through your hair to break through the cast, which sets on the hair after the gel dries. It works, try it!”

The Wednesday fringe

The Wednesday fringe may refer to the wispy bangs Jenna Ortega sports in the Netflix show of the same name, but this autumn 2025 hair trend was originally inspired by Jane Birkin’s iconic hair. “Distinguished by its soft, slightly uneven, eyebrow-grazing shape, the Wednesday fringe is aimed at that easy French girl aesthetic,” says Elliot Bute, stylist at Hershesons Fitzrovia. “It feels fresh, romantic, and low-key, while adding a soft face-framing detail without the commitment of full bangs. I recommend using a razor to keep ends light and airy.”

The Wednesday fringe works best on straight or fine hair “for optimal separation”, says Elliot but it “can be adapted for other textures with added softening or thinning.”

Pro style tip: “Blow-dry your fringe forward with a round brush. Finish with a tiny dab of styling cream for separation and refresh the next day with a blast of dry shampoo at the roots.”

My thoughts so far: Designed to create double the volume of your air-dried hair, the ghd Rise uses the same ultra-zone technology (and consistent heat distribution) as the brand's curling irons for a salon-quality finish. The tool uses ‘smooth touch’ bristles to style hair right from the root, meaning volume and a sleek finish in one.

This tool is basically a cheat code for flat hair days, seeing as it lifts straight from the root – meaning there's no need for backcombing or bucket loads of dry shampoo. The barrel heats evenly and glides through hair without snagging or pulling, making styling feel more like a breeze than a chore. It’s lightweight, heats up fast, and adds just the right amount of bend or flick through the lengths to give your hair that effortlessly ‘done’ look without going full glam. The only catch? So far, I've found that if you’ve got thick or long hair, it may take you a while to style your whole head. I'd go for something bigger and more suited to your hair type.

The power pixie

As hype around The Devil Wears Prada 2 reaches fever pitch, it's hardly surprisingly that Meryl Streep's power pixie is also set to trend. “This cropped, layered pixie is sharp, sculpted and deliberately androgynous,” says Tom. "With enough length left at the top and front to allow for versatile styling, it's also the anti blow-dry style. A long, sweepy fringe adds femininity; pulled back, the look is stronger and assertive.”

Jake Unger, hairstylist at Larry King Marylebone, has also seen a modern version of the pixie cut rise in popularity. “The key is keeping extra length around the front and then graduating that length so it's slightly longer and less chunky at the back."

Pro styling tip: “Ask for close layering and texture that can shift from matte and punkish by day to polished and glossy at night,” advises Tom.

The dolce vita crop

The traditional Italian bob takes its inspiration from the high glamour, full-bodied hair that Italian film stars like Monica Bellucci, are known for. “The ‘dolce vita crop’ is essentially a shorter, more daring evolution of the Italian bob but it still retains that chic, effortless and feminine appeal," says Chlöe. “Personalisation is key here so be sure to request a cropped length that suits your face shape. A razor cut is ideal as you want to keep the edges longer and flicky.”

Pro styling tip: “Opt for a deep side part to be on trend this AW25, and forget about wake up and go because the dolce vita crop will require styling. Use a hairdryer and brush to flat wrap the hair into place and hairspray to set the hair into your desired shape."

Pinpoint partings

According to Tom, pinpoint partings refer to razor-sharp, middle partings, cut through undone hair of any texture. Think off-duty Zendaya and Anya Taylor-Joy. “It's a precise line that anchors everything else, no matter the length,” he says. “It adds instant authority and balance without the need for heavy styling and works on any length beyond a pixie, where the parting can slice through cleanly.”

Pro styling tip: “For an immaculate finish, use a pintail comb on damp hair and lock in the parting with a light-hold hairspray or gel. If your hair is jumpy, consider flat duckbill clips to hold it in place as it sets.”

The heart-throb bob

"Sitting somewhere between sharp and soft, this is a jaw-skimming cut that channels that 90’s cool girl heart-throb energy – think Winona Ryder or Cameron Diaz – but with a more modern, wearable twist," says Chlöe. “Request a blunt, one-length baseline for strength, but ensure it's softened slightly at the edges with razor cutting to stop the heart-throb bob from looking boxy. The length can be jawline or longer but keep the length above the shoulder.”

Pro styling tip: “For a sleek look, I’d recommend applying some Color Wow Dream Coat and a light hair oil before blow-drying your lengths into a smooth 'do with a hairdryer and round brush. For a more mussed-up look, use a diffuser or add some soft bends in the hair with a flat iron."

Quiet luxury lengths

"This aesthetic is about hair that looks effortlessly polished, understated and timeless,” says Elliot. “Popular cuts include long hair with smooth, flowing layers that bounce softly, or the butterfly cut for movement and polish. Quiet luxury lengths project an elevated, luxurious feeling without fuss; fine, thick, curly or straight hair will all benefit from the tailored, healthy finish.”

Pro styling tip: “This style is best suited to create a sleek, smooth blow-dry, so I recommend using a paddle brush.”

The bell-bottom bob

The bell-bottom bob is back for AW25, with its silhouette that mimics the flared-out cut of the iconic ‘70s jeans. “The bell-bottom bob is a blunt, one-length cut that hovers at the jaw or mid neck,” says Elliot. “It’s styled sleek at the roots with the ends flared or flicked outward, offering a retro vibe and instant personality. Request a blunt, minimally layered bob that can be styled both into a precise flip or a more natural, undone look. While the bell-bottom bob works best on thicker hair textures, fine hair may just require extra effort and volume to maintain the flick.”

Pro styling tip: “Start by working mousse into the hair from root to tip to hold the shape and then blow-dry.”

Wuthering Heights hair

Wuthering Heights hair is essentially untouched strands. “This ultra-long cut mimics hair that has never been touched by scissors – think mermaid lengths with natural-looking waves and texture variations,” says hairstylist Danielle Garner. “Request a minimal trim, removing only damaged ends, to create a fresh, thick baseline that prevents straggly ends but still preserves the organic, untouched appearance. It’s the ultimate low-maintenance, high-impact look that celebrates hair in its most authentic state and embraces natural kinks, waves and the organic expansion that comes from brushing naturally textured hair."

Pro styling tip: “Braid damp straight or wavy hair into two plaits overnight, then gently brush it out in the morning for natural-looking waves. Or simply brush through with a boar bristle brush to enhance shine and natural texture.”

The ripped bob

The ripped bob is the cooler, choppy cousin of Sofia Richie's classic French bob and this is one autumn hair trend that's going to be everywhere in 2025. "Instead of sharp, blunt edges, the ripped bob embraces lived-in, effortless movement," says Melissa. “It features a predominantly one-length cut but with softly frayed, piece-y ends that bring out the texture of torn or ripped paper.” Think model off-duty vibes, which is why Elsa Hosk, Gigi Hadid, Halle Berry and Hailey Bieber are the ripped bob's poster girls.

“Ask for a bob with deconstructed, piece-y layers that give a slightly irregular, undone finish rather than sharp, blunt lines," she advises. "You might describe it as a bob with softly jagged ends or a ‘ripped’ texture. Stylists may refer to it as a textured or lived-in bob—just emphasise movement and soft edges.”

Pro styling tip: “Embrace the undone aesthetic of the ripped bob,” says Melissa. “For effortless texture, go heat-free and mist a salt spray or work a texturising cream through the hair and let it air-dry. If you have curls, use a diffuser and curl-defining creams to create movement without any stiffness. The goal is relaxed, slightly messy—but intentionally so.”
