Attention, Upper East Siders, we come bearing good news: the Gossip Girl reboot finally has a confirmed UK release date! We've been patiently waiting for news of UK release since 8th July was announced as the air date on HBO Max in the US, and now it's been confirmed that it will be available to UK fans on BBC and BBC iPlayer, as well as every single Gossip Girl episode ever.
Here's everything we know so far, as well as an introduction to the new cast members and when you can FINALLY watch the reboot, and catch up on the original series...
How will the new Gossip Girl be different from the last?
Reboot writer Joshua Safran has a super inclusive vision for the new iteration of Gossip Girl, explaining: “There was not a lot of representation the first time around on the show. So, this time around the leads are nonwhite. There’s a lot of queer content on this show. It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that. The thing I can’t say is there is a twist, and that all relates to the twist.” We like to see it.
Plus, Safran also disclosed to Entertainment Weekly that there are some cameos in season 1 from OG cast members. However, they're probably not one of the main characters. So no Serena van der Woodsen or Blair Waldorf...yet.
Explaining why, he said: "The decision was, 'Let's get season 1 under our belt, and should we get season 2, we'll have the chance to bring in cameos that are more than glorified cameos but actually give them storylines."
The original show's executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will be coming back, with Gossip Girl expert Joshua Safran on board as the main writer.
Chace Crawford, who played the very dreamy Nate Archibald, has hinted at a possible cameo. "The reboot might come in the form of new characters. I would absolutely cameo. I’d have to,” he told Digital Spy before news of the reboot was confirmed. "I'm open to anything". Yaaas!
Meanwhile Leighton Meester, who starred as Blair, toyed with the idea of her character's return. "I always say the same; I never say never, so I don't know," she told E! News.
The show’s latest synopsis notes, “Nine years ago, the original Gossip Girl website shut down. But after a new generation of New York’s young elite takes control of private school Constance Billard, the notorious blogger remerges as the number one source into their scandalous lives.”
In the update, Gossip Girl is an Instagram account rather than a blog, with actress Kristen Bell back as the narrator. We also know that Gossip Girl will even have her own TikTok account, which makes the show feel even more relevant to now.
Is there a Gossip Girl reboot trailer?
HBO shared a teaser of the reboot in June 2021 and OMG it's two minutes of PURE drama. There's a creepy, darker side to this, almost in a The Craft-meets-Clique kinda way.
The trailer teases a new ruling class of students, whose ranks are shaken by the arrival of a newcomer. There are the requisite hook-ups, glamorous fashion shows and dramatic conversations, all set to Frank Ocean’s fitting track “Super Rich Kids.”
Plus, the official @gossipgirl Instagram account dropped some new reels, showing some of the cast in action prior to the US release...

When will the new Gossip Girl be released?
In the US, the reboot was released on HBO Max on 8th July and it's finally been revealed that it'll be landing on BBC iPlayer and BBC One from this Wednesday 25th August. Meanwhile all episodes of the original series are now also available on the platform, after being added on 18th August. Rejoice!
How many episodes will there be for the Gossip Girl reboot?
The show's reboot will feature 10 hour-long episodes (heaven!) and will be set eight years after the original show.

Blair Waldorf would be quivering in her Jimmy Choos. However, there has also been some Blair-esque Chanel tweed suits and pussybow blouses too.
