The return of The Devil Wears Prada in the form of a nostalgic sequel sees Emily Blunt return to our screens in a – quite frankly – hilarious way. Her role in the original movie as an workaholic, icy intern (also named Emily) has evolved for the sequel into an equally as icy Dior exec. And boy, does she have the most deadpan comic lines to deliver.
While Emily Blunt's character in the brand new movie sees her hook up with a billionaire tycoon obsessed with going to space (remind you of anyone?), she is married to actor and director John Krasinski IRL. The couple met 2 years after The Devil Wears Prada was released in 2008. They were both at an LA restaurant at an event thrown by a mutual friend.
For the uninitiated, John Krasinski starred in the US version of The Office from 2005 to 2013 as Jim, going on to star as Jack Ryan in Amazon's acton TV series. He then worked with Blunt on the A Quiet Place movie series, which revolves around an apocalyptic world in which blind monsters roam and attack when you make a sound. Cillian Murphy even joined the cast for the sequel, with Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn and Lupita Nyong'o starring in a prequel and A Quiet Place 3 is set to go into production this year, with Blunt and Cillian Murphy returning and Sinners star Jack O'Connell joining the cast.
The star talks the sequel's depiction of both body image and the decline of the magazine industry.
Oon The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2011 Krasinski said that he "wasn't really looking for a relationship" when he first came to LA, but changed his mind after meeting Blunt.
"Then I met her and I was so nervous. I was like, 'Oh god, I think I'm going to fall in love with her,' " he shared, adding that their instant chemistry was undeniable. "It's one of those things where as soon as you meet someone you kind of know."
The couple married in Lake Como two years later at George Clooney's estate, no less. Talk about an A-lister wedding. Since then, they have welcomed two daughters. In a recent interview with Glamour UK, Emily opened up about how she wanted her character's own motherhood experience to be portrayed.
“We talked about it, could she be a terrible mother? I said, ‘What if she's not? What if she loves it? What if she loves those kids? And she can gloat about them and brag about them, but maybe she's good at it.’”
Emily has also opened up recently about the time Krasinski almost gave her the ick. Is this couple goals? On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this week she said: “I’ll be honest … I have a full organ rejection to turtlenecks usually. When John pitched me this outfit and he was like, ‘And it’s a turtleneck,’ I had to compose my face into, like, impassive, ‘Oh, that sounds great,’ you know?’
“But then when I saw [him], I thought he looked like Michael Caine. He looked so cool, '60s vibe,” she admitted. “But normally a man in the turtleneck gives me the ick. Sorry to any turtleneck wearers tonight.”
Of the much-anticipated A Quiet Place 3, which is due out in 2027, she said: “He starts shooting really soon. He’s been writing it." Blunt added a Post-it related habit Krasinski has during his writing process. "He’s one of these weird, sort of Beautiful Mind people. He goes up, he has Post-its everywhere, and he’s like that for months, organizing it. [It’s] to the point where I’m like, ‘Please write this movie. Stop Post-it-ing our house.’”
Marriage goals for sure.
