Every year when the Met Gala rolls around, Swifties have one question in their minds: Will this be the year Taylor Swift makes her grand return? And, of course, Met Gala 2026 is no exception.
Last year, many people thought Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce would be making their joint Met Gala debut. However, the couple ended up skipping the event, despite reportedly being invited. They allegedly “could not make it work as a result of their schedules.”
The countdown is on for the most major red carpet of the year…

The Met Gala 2026, with the theme "Costume Art" and the dress code “Fashion Is Art,” is scheduled for May 4, and while it is not confirmed whether Taylor Swift will attend, fans are not holding their breath.
The “Fate of Ophelia” singer has famously skipped the Met Gala since her last appearance in 2016, making fans believe she will most likely also skip this year’s, especially since she and Kelce are seemingly busy with reportedly planning a summer wedding.
Only one of Hollywood's biggest icons, mind you.

It is true that the couple tends to stay away from major public commitments like the Grammys and the Oscars since they like to make "the most of their time off together,” as a source told People. That said, they did make a public appearance recently at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards after months outside of the spotlight, though it was because Swift was nominated for multiple awards. She ended up taking home seven trophies, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year.
While there are no nominations at the Met Gala, Swift has not been announced as a co-chair or host, which would be the equivalent, so all signs point to her skipping the event. For example, much like Swift, Beyoncé has skipped the Met Gala since 2016. However, Bey will be making her grand return this year as a co-chair. Similarly, Zendaya made her grand return in 2014 after skipping the event for several consecutive years. The reason for her return? She was also a co-chair.
While there is a chance that Taylor Swift could make a surprise appearance at the Met Gala 2026, we have a feeling her grand return is yet to come.
