Our ultimate Autumn TV series treat The Great British Bake Off is back, which basically means cosy season is here.
And while we're lapping up all the baking skills and treats, but has anyone else noticed that the general climate of GBBO is different this year?! Usually, we see our contestants under pressure in the heat of summer, with the GBBO tent being famous for being stifling hot (particularly during chocolate week) – which only adds to the drama usually.
But this year, we've seen contestants wrapping up in puffer jackets in the tent, their breath visible in the air – bringing us serious cold weather vibes.

It's a definite departure from form. During week one, contestant Andy's chocolate collar set far too quickly as result, not to mention the problems with John's macarons. "It's not whipping up," he said. "I think it's the temperature in here. It's so cold."
So the question is this: was GBBO 2024 filmed at a different time of year this year?
When was The Great British Bake Off 2024 filmed?
The show was filmed in its regular location of the Welford Park Estate in Berkshire – it's been filmed there most years, bar the Covid era. You can even visit the estate, but sadly not the tent itself.
The 2024 series was, surprisingly, filmed during its normal slot of spring and summer (roughly April to June) this year, but the big and crucial difference was the UK's significantly colder spring and summer months in 2024, with the average temperature in Berkshire not reaching above 15 degrees celsius. Brr.
The iconic white tent is back to see contestants through the inevitable cake chaos and bread week breakdowns.
This means that this year contestants aren't being subjected to the usual obstacles of perspiration and a boiling hot GBBO tent. In fact, they are having to adapt to the opposite conditions! Does that mean there'll be no melting baked Alaskas or unset bavaroises this year?! We'll have to wait and see.
