The latest season of Race Across the World has seen contestants make their way from Sicily to a remote village in Northern Mongolia, scrimping, saving and hitchhiking through countries such as Greece, Georgia and Kazakhstan to get there. But as the series final approaches, it's us viewers who are facing a challenge: the episode is moving from it's usual TV slot.

OK, fine. A change to the release schedule of the nation's favourite reality show isn't necessarily an insurmountable plight. But it will take a bit of forward planning if you want to catch all the action as it airs, before spoilers make their way on to the internet. The good news? We'll actually get to watch the Race Across the World final sooner than originally expected. Here's everything you need to know.

When will the Race Across the World final air?

Although the show usually airs like clockwork on BBC One at 8pm on Thursdays, this week, you'll need to tune in 24 hours earlier. The Race Across the World final has moved to 8pm Wednesday 13th May – time clear cancel your mid-week plans and settle in on the sofa.

Why has its regular slot changed?

To make way for another bit of essential watching: the Eurovision semi-final. Running from 8pm to 10.15pm on BBC One, the competition is the precursor for Saturday night's main event, where European nations will battle it out through the power of cheesy pop songs. Planning a watch party? Make sure you're tuned in by 8pm on Saturday, when all the action kicks off. And before then, get learning the lyrics to the UK's entry from Look Mum No Computer. The song, “Eins, Zwei, Drei", is perhaps our quirkiest and most unique entry yet – let's hope it finally wins us some points.

What will happen in the Race Across the World final?

We'll get to see the contestants make it to their final destination, Mongolia, where rugged terrains, freezing temperatures and limited access to public transport present their last-push challenges. The plus side? The scenery is breathtaking – and of course, they'll also get to experience the local culture. Expect to see the duos listen to throat singing for the first time and sample some Mongolian savoury tea. That'll warm them up!

The episode will be the cumulation of the contestant's mammoth 12,000km journey across Europe and Asia, pushing them to their limit as they navigate extreme climates and a tiny budget of just £26 a day. From siblings and best friends to in-laws and a father-daughter duo, this years contestants have continually risen to the task and, as always, shared unforgettable experiences.

They're all winners in our eyes, but obviously only one duo will be able to take home the £20,000 prize. Bookies' odds currently predict Mancunian siblings Katie and Harrison are most likely to be crowned this series' champions – by pretty a high margin of 4/7, no less. But for the real result, you'll just have to make sure you're tuned in on Wednesday night. On your marks…
