Here’s everything you need to know about the TV adaptation of The Testaments, including the plot, release date, and where to watch it. Blessed be the fruit, y’all!

What is The Testaments about?

According to Disney, “An evolution of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments is based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name and is a dramatic coming-of-age story set in Gilead. The series follows young teens Agnes, dutiful and pious, and Daisy, a new arrival and convert from beyond Gilead’s borders. As they navigate the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives, a place where obedience is instilled brutally and always with divine justification, their bond becomes the catalyst that will upend their past, their present, and their future.”

Oh, we are truly seated.

The Testaments is narrated by Aunt Lydia from The Handmaid's Tale, and unfolds through the testimonies of two young women: Agnes, growing up in Gilead, and Daisy, living in Canada. Their perspectives offer a fresh and compelling lens on life inside — and beyond — the oppressive regime.

When does The Testaments take place?

The Testaments series is set four years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale and expands the story to both Gilead and Canada. While Gilead remains a brutal, theocratic dictatorship where women are oppressed, Canada shows the outside world and the consequences of Gilead’s actions on those who escaped.

When will The Testaments be released?

The Testaments premiered on Wednesday, April 8, with three episodes dropping at once. New episodes will be released weekly.

Will Elisabeth Moss appear in The Testaments?

There was previously no confirmation that Elisabeth Moss will reprise her iconic role as June in The Testaments. Given June’s connection to the story — no spoilers! — fans remained hopeful. Moss stayed involved with the series as an executive producer and spoke publicly about the two main actresses, which seemed promising.

That said, it’s worth noting that June does not appear in Margaret Atwood’s book version of The Testaments, so any appearance would be a new addition for the TV adaptation.

But, it is our great delight to confirm that June, and therefore Moss, does appear in The Testaments. Our girl is back y'all! She is revealed towards the end of the third episode as the Mayday agent keeping in touch with our pearly spy.
