Despite being stuck in a year-long lockdown, it's been quite the year for entertainment. I mean, what else have we had to do from our sofa other than binge the best movies? That's exactly why we're so damn excited that the Oscars 2021 is upon us - and it's taking place in real life (!) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Now in its 93rd (!) year, the Oscars draws together Hollywood royalty to internationally recognise the greatest film achievements over the past year and we all know it's the most major awards season red carpet (sorry, Golden Globes!).
Films aside, the Oscars are also known for show-stopping red carpet outfits, unexpected wins and groundbreaking acceptance speeches that fuel the internet’s memes for weeks.
Because the ceremony has been rescheduled from February 28 due to Coronavirus, the Oscar’s eligibility criteria has changed slightly, with the December 31 deadline extended to February 28. This means that films released up until that date will now qualify for recognition by the awarding body.
Mank leads the nominations with TEN nods, while The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, Sound of Metal and The Trial of the Chicago 7 are all up for six each.

It's the biggest, most prestigious night in showbusiness and while the proceedings of the 93rd Academy Awardsmight have been a little different this year due to the small matter of the global pandemic, the show still went on! And what a show...with Covid secure attendance on the red carpet at the new smaller venue, The Union Station Los Angeles plus hubs in London- at the BFI on the Southbank - Paris and Sydney the stars came out and dazzled. It was heralded as the most diverse Oscarsin history (after the scandal of #Oscarssowhite in past years), the inclusivity was certainly evident.
Who attended the Oscars?
As expected, there was a pretty star-studded lineup, including Carey Mulligan, Olivia Colman, Daniel Kaluuya, Vanessa Kirby, Margot Robbie (and her new fringe!), Riz Ahmed, Frances McDormand, Glenn Close and Viola Davis.

What was the Oscars 2021 dress code and who was the best dressed?
Producers wrote to attendees ahead of the event to explain: "We're aiming for a fusion of Inspirational and Aspirational, which in actual words means formal is totally cool if you want to go there, but casual is really not."
With such a brilliant line-up of nominees tonight - including Carey Mulligan, Olivia Colman, Viola Davis, Vanessa Kirby, Yuh-Jung Youn and Amanda Seyfried - and news of the 'No Zoom' rule meaning that the majority would be in attendance, fashion fans immediately put the date in their calendars as one to look out for - and they weren't disappointed. Peruse the best Oscars 2021 red carpet looks.

Who is hosting the Oscars this year?
No one! Last year, The Oscars went without a host for the first time in 30 years in 2019 after Kevin Hart was forced to step down when a series of homophobic tweets were uncovered and no one hosted last year either.
Despite no host, Zendaya, Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Regina King, Reese Witherspoon, and Harrison Ford presented awards at this year's Oscars ceremony. Bong Joon Ho, who directed last year's best film winner Parasite, also made an appearance, along with Halle Berry, Bryan Cranston and Renee Zellweger.
How did they make the Oscars Covid-safe?
Producers of the show said that face masks will play a very important role in the ceremony.
A Covid-19 safety team were in attendance at the ceremony to make sure everything was safe for the 170 attendees on the day.
