Stop what you're doing - these are all the epic looks from the 2021 Oscars red carpet
While most of us were settling down for an episode of Line of Duty (no spoilers please!), for a very select few on the other side of the pond, Sunday evening marked the much-anticipated - slightly delayed - 2021 Oscars ceremony.
Taking place two months later than traditionally billed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic - which also delayed the rest of awards season - the Oscars returned to its familiar home at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Despite a predictably slimmed-down guest list in light of the ongoing pandemic, and unlike the ceremonies which have already taken place this Awards Season, the Oscars made it very clear to nominees in a letter that they would be required to attend the event in person - no Zoom call-ins allowed. For those who wouldn't be able to attend, the Academy explained that it would accept the award on their behalf.

Of course, the health and safety of attendees was always a primary concern and the red carpet was treated as a movie set, with "specially designed testing cadences to ensure up-to-the-minute results, including an on-site COVID safety team with PCR testing capability".
While awards season had so far been heavily 'virtual' so far this year, it had no doubt also played host to some seriously incredible looks. From Anya Taylor-Joy in custom Dior Haute Couture at the Golden Globes, to Lizzo's epic double(!) Balmain moment at the Grammys and Phoebe Dynevor's off-the-shoulder Louis Vuitton look at the BAFTAs, we've been treated to eight weeks of seriously memorable dresses.
With such a brilliant line-up of nominees this weekend - including Carey Mulligan, Olivia Colman, Viola Davis, Vanessa Kirby, Yuh-Jung Youn and Amanda Seyfried - and news of the 'No Zoom' rule meaning that the majority would be in attendance, fashion fans immediately put the date in their calendars as one to look out for. Thanks to the 'Inspirational and Aspirational' dress code, we were expecting big things.
