Any girl who's battled double-sided fashion tape knows how daring Lorde's 2025 Met Gala look really was.

On May 5 – otherwise known as the first Monday in May – Lorde ascended the Met Gala steps for the first time since 2021, wearing a gravity-defying ensemble by American fashion designer, Thom Browne. Working with a renowned menswear designer honoured the dress code, Tailored for You, before we even get to the impeccable fit of Lorde's corseted skirt and backless bandeau top.

Lorde finished off her look with a matching silver suit jacket, minimal makeup and a mix of diamond and silver jewellery. But I'd like to get back to that floating magic top.

Though the satin bandeau appears to float nonchalantly, some extra-sticky mechanism is working to keep the girls covered under the hot lights of the carpet. Even more impressive, it seems to pass the dance test, as demonstrated on Lorde's Instagram feed. Personally, I would like to know what product or tape Lorde and her stylist trusted to keep her bandeau secure throughout the night, as I've yet to find a double-sided fashion tape that inspires such confidence.

To quote Lorde's recent single off her upcoming album, Virgin, “Baby, what was that?!” Inquiring minds would like to know.
