Today is the first Monday in May, which means the Met Gala 2025 is finally upon us, and we've got all the details about the illustrious event. Each year, we all tune in to see our favourite celebrities and artists celebrate fashion by interpreting a theme set forth by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in line with its annual spring exhibition.

This year, the exhibition centres on Black dandyism, with Met Gala guests dressing according to the theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It's the first time the exhibition has focused exclusively on menswear in two decades (the last time was “Bravehearts: Men in Skirts” back in 2003).

From the theme to co-hosts, guest list and more, here's everything you need to know about the 2025 Met Gala.

When is the Met Gala 2025?

The Met Gala takes place on the first Monday in May each year. That means the Met Gala 2025 is happening tonight (Monday, May 5, 2025) and marks the official opening of the Costume Institute’s Superfine: Tailoring Black Style exhibition, which will run from 10 May to 26 October 2025. The Met Gala is the primary source of funding for the annual exhibition, which is why tickets are so pricey (more on that below).

What time is the Met Gala 2025?

The Met Gala red carpet opens in New York at 6 pm (EST). That's 11 pm GMT for fashion fans in the UK. Have you stocked up on energy drinks?

What is the Met Gala 2025 theme?

The Met Gala 2025 theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” According to Vogue, it's inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. Vogue further revealed that the exhibit will explore “the style of Black men in the context of dandyism, from the 18th century through the present.”

According to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the exhibition will be organised into 12 sections, each representing “a characteristic that defines the style, such as Champion, Respectability, Heritage, Beauty, and Cosmopolitanism.

“Together, these characteristics demonstrate how one’s self-presentation is a mode of distinction and resistance – within a society impacted by race, gender, class, and sexuality.”

What is the Met Gala dress code?

Vogue announced the official dress code on 4 February, 2025. In line with the theme, focusing on dandyism, the dress code is “Tailored for You." As stated by the Met, the dress code is a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation.” The dress code is supposed to encourage guests to embrace their personal style through tailored silhouettes, reimagining the world of menswear.

Last week, GLAMOUR's Acting Fashion Editor Rosie Lai spoke on BBC Radio 4's Women's Hour about how she thinks the theme will be interpreted. Speaking alongside New York Times Fashion & Style's Elizabeth Paton, Rosie explores how female celebrities will interpret the theme. “Black dandyism came from the 18th and 19th centuries and is about men at the time putting together looks in a meticulous way that showed off their fluency in fashion, but also how cultured they were.”

Rosie continues, “It's ultimately an approach to dressing that can be applied to women as well.”

Who are the co-chairs of the Met Gala 2025?

Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour will co-chair the 2025 Met Gala alongside honorary chair LeBron James.

In his cover interview for Vogue's May edition, Lewis Hamilton says, "I hope this year’s Met Gala sparks conversation and reconfirms the connection between fashion and self-expression, and how deep it runs in Black culture.

“I hope it allows us to show that we have ownership of our identity, how we see ourselves and how we see one another, and how we use fashion to combat preconceived notions with humanity and dignity.”

The Met has also announced this year’s host committee, which (per Vogue) includes “André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Grace Wales Bonner, Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens, Jordan Casteel, Dapper Dan, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Edward Enninful, Jeremy O Harris, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Rashid Johnson, Regina King, Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee, Audra McDonald, Janelle Monáe, Jeremy Pope, Angel Reese, Sha’Carri Richardson, Olivier Rousteing, Tyla, Usher and Kara Walker.”

While the guest list is always kept under wraps, Vogue announced a slew of big names that will be a part of the Met Gala's host committee — a select group of top creatives, artists, and athletes. So we can expect to see stars like Simone Biles, Dapper Dan, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Edward Enninful, Janelle Monáe, Angel Reese, Sha'Carri Richardson, Olivier Rousteing, Tyla, and USHER in attendance.

How much is a ticket to the Met Gala?

The inner workings of the Met Gala are shrouded in secrecy, which obviously makes us all the more obsessed with it. All guests must be invited, and individual tickets cost $75,000, The Met previously told CBS MoneyWatch. As mentioned earlier, the Met Gala is a fundraiser, as well as a celebration of art, style, and fashion, with proceeds going to the Costume Institute.
