Yes, we know what you’re about to Google: Is Lamar Odom dead? Fear not: he’s alive and part of the documentary. But back in 2015, Odom came terrifyingly close, and that near-death experience is the focus of this powerful instalment.

Here’s everything we know about the NBA star’s story, his brush with death, and his current relationship with ex-wife Khloé Kardashian.

How did Odom Lamar almost die?

On October 13, 2015, Lamar Odom was found nonresponsive at a now-demolished brothel roughly 80 miles outside Las Vegas. Employees of the Love Ranch told the Nye County Sheriff’s Office that Odom had used cocaine the previous Saturday and taken multiple sexual performance-enhancing pills. Odom, however, insists he did not overdose on cocaine.

He spent nearly three months recovering at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, surviving 12 strokes and six heart attacks. Against doctors’ predictions that he would never walk or talk again, he ultimately defied the odds.

Odom has said he had just signed divorce papers from his ex-wife Kardashian and had gone to the brothel with drugs to distract himself. “It was like a hit,” he recalls. “Obviously, they missed. I don't know if they want to finish the job.”

In the documentary, Kardashian reveals that Odom’s lungs collapsed during his hospital stay. Doctors presented a surgery with only a 10% success rate, and Odom’s former Lakers teammate, the late Kobe Bryant, helped her make the decision. While the surgery worked, Odom remained in a coma for three days.

Are Odom Lamar and Khloé Kardashian back together?

Kardashian and Odom’s courtship was fast; just 30 days after meeting in 2009, they tied the knot. In 2013, reports emerged of alleged infidelity.

Kardashian had already signed divorce papers prior to his overdose, though the split had not yet been finalised. She remained by his side after the medical crisis, revealing in the documentary that she had a premonition something bad would happen.

“I was doing a photo shoot for People magazine, and the night before, I had a dream about Lamar, that he was dead, and I was at his funeral, and I was sobbing,” Kardashian shared. She also learned of the incident from her sister, Kim.

After caring for Odom in the hospital, Kardashian rented a house for him to continue his recovery. However, when she caught him using drugs again, she ended the relationship. Despite her participation in the documentary, Odom revealed that the pair have not been in contact since. Their only reunion came during a televised appearance for Hulu’s The Kardashians, which aired in February 2025. So to confirm: Odom Lamar and Khloé Kardashian are not back together, or even friends at this point.
