Megan Thee Stallion was taken to the hospital mid-way through a performance of Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Tuesday 31st March after becoming “very ill”.

"Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated," a spokesperson for the rapper said in a statement. "We will share additional updates as more information becomes available."

The rapper made her Broadway debut as Zidler in the Broadway musical in New York just last week, taking over from Bob the Drag Queen, whose run ended on 22 March.

"Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honour," she said in a statement when her casting was announced, per Deadline. "I've always believed in pushing myself creatively and theatre is definitely a new opportunity that I'm excited to embrace."

She added, "Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me.”

Following her debut in the role, she wrote on Instagram, “So grateful for this incredible cast & crew & everyone who worked so hard to make opening night a success!! HOTTIES IM ON BROADWAY!!”

Megan is the first woman to play Zidler in the musical. “Zidler is already, like, an outgoing, loud, whimsical character,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “But just bringing Megan Thee Stallion to it, bringing my own attitude, my own little flavour, I feel like it's a whole new character.”

She added that she had been saying her lines “every day” in preparation.
