A perfect red carpet debut for Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet: the Met Gala 2025. So, why didn't it happen?
Jenner and Chalamet have been together since 2023, and, at first, there were few “official” photographs of them together at public events. They’ve gradually gotten more public with their relationship over the past two years, but while they’ll pose for pictures during events such as the Oscars, they’ve still never walked the red carpet together.
The Met Gala in 2025 felt like the perfect opportunity to take their relationship to the next red carpet level. However, the couple chose not to take it. Jenner was at the event, but she attended on the arm of Maximilian Davis, the creative director of Salvatore Ferragamo.
For the Tailored for You dress code, Jenner's dress took a highly creative approach. Think deconstructed suit that's then been reconstructed into a corseted dress. The gown had a sheer, corset bodice with a gray wool skirt featuring a hip-bone-high slit and embroidered details. On top, Jenner added a black silk scarf worn across the neckline and wrapped around her arms, letting the tails hang like the train of a skirt.
In 2024, Jenner attended the Met Gala alone – channelling Marilyn Monroe in a custom, blush-colored Oscar de la Renta gown with a dramatic train and a pointy bust detail.
Jenner also attended the 2023 Met Gala solo, that time wearing a Jean Paul Gaultier design, which featured a blue silk jacket detail that transformed into the train of the ruby red dress on the museum steps.
As for Chalamet, while he’s been absent from the event lately, he’s no Met Gala rookie. In 2021, he wore a playful white suit to the event, pairing a crisp double-breasted blazer with white sweatpants and white high-top Converse sneakers.
There was the possibility that a Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet Met Gala 2025 debut was happening, but they would not take the red steps together. Instead, we might have seen them walking hand-in-hand to the after-party, or perhaps in a few selfies posted to Instagram. After all, that has kind of been their go-to move up to now.

Alas, Chalamet posted an IG Story on the night of the Met Gala indicating that, instead of joining his girlfriend at the Met, he was enjoying a basketball game from the comfort of home. Why? You'd have to ask him.
