House of the Dragon season 2 ending spoilers ahead.
Anyone watched the House of the Dragon season 2 finale yet? If you haven't, and want to avoid spoilers, stop reading now. You've been warned (twice).
Fans are freaking out at the finale, and reactions have been somewhat mixed. Some have called it an anticlimax, others have expressed their frustration at having to wait for the next season.
What was the House of the Dragon season 2 ending?
As the finale suggested that a battle would be fought for Westeros, there was a serious “wait is that it?" moment right at the end.
Basically, the episode – and season – ends with Rhaenyra (Emma D'arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) next to one another, reflecting on the the looming battle. So, no actual battle then. It's déja vu vibes in a way, as season 1 ended in a similar way.
Some fans are super frustrated, as it looks like they will be waiting until 2025 or 2026 to see the action in season 3.
One disappointed fan said that the season “could've been an email”.

That said, not all finale feedback was bad. Abigail Thorn was praised for her performance, while Daemon's “vision” of Game of Thrones era Daenerys Targaryen and the tension between Rhaenyra and Alicent – the major consensus just seems to be a lack of delivery when it comes to the action.
What happens at the end of Fire & Blood?
If you're already thinking about House of the Dragon season 3, and how the entire series might ultimately end, it's hard to ignore the book that the TV show is based on, Fire & Blood.
A huge storyline is who will succeed King Viserys, his brother Prince Daemon (played on House of the Dragon by Matt Smith) his daughter Princess Rhaenyra or a latecomer to the race, Aegon. It tracks a feud between the Targaryen families, worsened when Rhaenyra isn't told of the death of Viserys in 129, leading to Aegon being crowned Aegon II.
We know that the the Fire & Blood story ends with Aegon III, Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon's son, marrying Alicent's granddaughter, Jaehaera, thus (hopefully) uniting the two feuding branches of the Targaryen house.
Will this be how House of the Dragon also ends? We'll have to wait and see to find out.
HBO is taking us back to Westeros.
