Now that House of the Dragon's second season has drawn to a close, are you clamouring for more epic familial feuds? More twisted Targaryen family trees? More dragons? Well, you're in luck — HBO has already officially confirmed that season three of House of the Dragon is on its way.
"George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon," said Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming, in a recent statement before the launch of season 2.
“We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivalled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”

House of the Dragon season 3 release date
Reports say that production for House of the Dragon season 3 will begin in early 2025, meaning that a release date could fall any time from mid to late 2025 to 2026.
What will House of the Dragon season 3 be about?
The third season will continue to follow the events of George R. R. Martin's book Fire & Blood, which traces the infamously bloody Dance of the Dragons, a civil war between two factions of the Targaryen family.
According to Deadline, there are still some major battles from the original book that will be left for season 3 of the show. Emma D'Arcy, who plays Rhaenyra, has spoken about the epic end to season 2 and their plans for season 3.
“Oh my God, by the end of Season 2, I was a fucking shell of myself," they told IGN. "I was a husk. I could not form a sentence. I was so tired. I need to implement some way of getting through Season 3, if there's a Season 3, to really harness as much energy as possible. It is a behemoth."

So far, no new cast members have been announced for season 3.
However, it's likely that all of the major actors will be reprising their roles in the third season, and we'll see Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Fabian Frankel, Ewan Mitchell and Matt Smith returning.
