House of the Dragon season one spoilers ahead
House of the Dragon season two is coming very soon – next month, in fact. There will be eight episodes of action-packed fun, though instead of ten, which is the amount we got last season.
As we approach closer to the second instalment's release date, we're getting more and more excited. Particularly as trans icon, YouTuber and actor Abigail Thorn has confirmed she'll be joining the cast.
She recently revealed on Instagram that she’ll be portraying Sharako Lohar, the Triarchy’s new commander. Abigail added:“I LOVE Sharako, she’s an ass-kicking action babe in the biggest show in the world - a dream come true!”
The actor came out as trans back in 2021 in an instalment of her YouTube series PhilosphyTube. Her entrance adds to the wonderful queerness of the key cast, with Emma D'Arcy identifying as nonbinary and bringing us some glorious sexual tension with co-star Olivia Cooke (who plays Alicent Hightower) last season. We can't wait to see what next season will bring.

The Sky Atlantic show, which is based on George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood novel, was billed as a prequel to the famous fantasy drama HBO television series, with its events taking place before everything that occurred in Game of Thrones.
It's safe to say the first season of House of the Dragon was quite the success – the finale pulled in a mammoth 9 million viewers, earning the highest ratings for HBO since the Game of Thrones finale. Well, we reckon things are set to play out in a similar fashion for season two after HBO just dropped the first trailer – and it's looking pretty epic, even with our high expectations.
The next instalment will continue to follow the Targaryen dynasty and their struggles for power in Westeros after the shocking events of the season one finale, which saw the death of Rhaenyra Targaryen's (Emma D'Arcy) son Lucerys.
The teaser trailer, which was unveiled during a special panel at Brazil's CCXP (on Saturday 2nd December), has given fans a first glimpse at Rhaenyra's revenge as she and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) embark to battle on dragon back.
We see Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) warning: “There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin. And no war so bloody as a war between dragons."
And with record-breaking millions of fans tuning in each week, House of the Dragon definitely entertained with its shocking revelations about the Targaryen dynasty, including insight into the rivalry between King Viserys' second wife Alicent Hightower and daughter Rhaenrya – and the introduction to the Greens and Blacks.
Filming for House of the Dragon season two started this spring over at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden. Speaking in a statement at the time, the show's co-creator Ryan Condal said: "House of the Dragon has returned. We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera. All your favourite characters will soon be conspiring at the council tables, marching with their armies, and riding their dragons into battle. We can't wait to share what we have in store."
Excited for more? Here's everything we know about House of the Dragon season 2 so far…
House of the Dragon season two release date
It will land on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV on Monday 17 June.
When was season two of House of the Dragon confirmed?
Soon after the premiere of season 1, HBO announced plans to renew the show, which will return to Sky and NOW in the UK.
Managing director of content at Sky, Zai Bennett, said: "House of the Dragon is already proving to be a ratings hit, and we predict it will go from strength to strength due to the captivating storytelling and incredible production values.
“We look forward to sharing a second series with our customers on Sky and NOW.”
While we look forward to season two, the show's star Matt Smith, sent the rumour mill swirling that there may even be a season three. "Once we make the jump, we're in. I'm pretty sure from then on there's not any big huge time jumps, particularly next season and the one after," he said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
Is there a House of the Dragon season two trailer?
The first trailer for the second instalment was released on 3 December, shows Daemon Targaryen suiting up in his impressive armour, knights on horseback, soldiers burning alive and several of the main cast riding their dragons into battle. Big stuff. Watch the official trailer below:
Season 2 promises even more dragon drama as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower’s forces go head to head. Back in March, we saw two differing “duelling” trailers drop, one for each side, with a final trailer dropping earlier this month.
What will House of the Dragon season two be about?
While it hasn't been confirmed, season two will likely cover the timeline of 129-131 AC from George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood. This period decides the successor to the Iron Throne.
We now know that revenge is the essence of the season two as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) warns in the teaser trailer: “There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin. And no war so bloody as a war between dragons."
The creative team behind House of the Dragon previously said that the second season will follow a more traditional and slower pace compared to the time jumps in season one.
"We will get to the spectacle. But you have to understand these people's complexities before they're thrown into war," showrunner Ryan Condal told The Times. "Series two will hit the rhythms people came to expect from the middle run of Game of Thrones, but it will have been earned, and viewers will feel the tragedies because we put the work in."
Who will star in House of the Dragon season two?
Alongside Abigail's big debut, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke and Eve Best will be joined by fellow returning stars Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham in season two.
They'll be joined by several other new faces, including Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, a healer and resident of Harrenhal, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, the son of Otto and Alicent's brother, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne.
