If you, like everyone else in the world, have spent the last few months utterly captivated by The Pitt, you probably have one question on your mind: when will we get the next series? Good news: The Pitt season 3 timeline has already been confirmed, meaning we'll soon have plenty more emergency room drama to get stuck into.

Both seasons of the American TV show only dropped in the UK in March, but its quickly become the must-watch series of 2026. A spiritual successor to ER – not least because it also stars Noah Wyle – The Pitt flips the medical drama format on its head by focusing each series on one 15-hour shift in an emergency room. That means we see the action unfold in real time, with each hour-long episode immersing viewers in the minute-by-minute pressures faced by Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (that's Wyle) and his hospital department. The result is an outrageously gripping portrait of life on the frontlines of an underfunded emergency room, packed with high-stakes medical crises and emotional tension alike.

Here in the UK, we're still in the midst of The Pitt season two, which takes place of Fourth of July and, fittingly, is airing weekly until 3 July on HBO Max, Sky and NOW. But that hasn't stopped us from wondering when the next series will land and when it 15-hour shift will take place. Thankfully, Wyle has just dropped some hints about season three to tide us over – for now, at least.

When does The Pitt season 3 timeline take place?

Two things we've always known: season three will once again take place over a 15-hour shift and there will most probably be a time jump from season two, given that that first series took place the year before this year's Fourth of July-themed episodes. And now, thanks to Wyle's recent revelations, we know exactly how long the next time jump will be.

In a recent interview with Deadline, the actor confirmed that season three is "set in early November, just before the holidays, ushering in a whole new set of emergencies and confrontations and complications.” And while he didn't go as far to explain which holidays the show will focus on, our bet is there'll be some pre-Thanksgiving or post-Black Friday chaos to contend with. The colder month setting also gives The Pitt to explore what emergency rooms look like when the temperature drops and the weather is a little less sunny.

When will The Pitt season 3 air?

Like previous seasons, The Pitt will return to screens in the US next January with another 15 episodes, with production commencing in June. Here in the UK, though, we might have to wait a little longer. Although official air dates for this side of the pond haven't yet been confirmed, this year, season two was available from April. But given The Pitt's success in the UK, we're hoping the TV gods might decide to air season three in both countries at the same time. Fingers crossed…

Which cast members will return to The Pitt season 3?

Well, of course, we'll be seeing Wyle return as the show's star, alongside other core cast members such as Taylor Dearden as Dr. King, Gerran Howell as Dr. Whitaker, Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi, Isa Briones as Dr. Santos and Laëtitia Hollard as nurse Emma Nolan. The one big change? Supriya Ganesh’s Dr. Mohan won't be returning, because in the plot “she’s not working” on the day of the action. That's all we know for now, but stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
