As a first-time buyer, one of the first things on my list after moving in was finding the right mattress. I’d had my eye on the Dusk hybrid mattress for a while, and investing in it turned out to be one of the best grown-up decisions I’ve made.

I was halfway through my pregnancy and struggling with constant back pain that my pregnancy pillow just couldn't fix. What I truly needed was a proper mattress upgrade. Dusk's Memory Foam 2,000 Pocket Sprung Hybrid Mattress is of the best affordable mattresses in the UK. Its features ticked every box on my list - from support and breathability to comfort and value for money.

I was never a fan of memory foam mattresses, having always preferred pure pocket-sprung ones. But with the weight of a six-pound baby pressing on my body, I started waking up with awful backaches. With my old pocket-sprung mattress, I could easily slide my arm between my lower back and the mattress while lying on my back - a clear sign I wasn’t getting proper support.

It was definitely time for a change. So, for the past six months, I’ve been putting this Dusk hybrid mattress to the test in my own bedroom to see if it’s really worth the investment. From comfort and design to the setup process, I’ve noted down every detail - here’s my honest verdict.

Memory Foam 2,000 Pocket Sprung Hybrid Mattress - Medium/Firm

Memory Foam 2,000 Pocket Sprung Hybrid Mattress review: first impressions

From the moment I placed my order with Dusk, the process was seamless. I received quick updates every step of the way, which made the experience feel really efficient and reassuring. One of the things that stood out to me was the availability - unlike many big furniture items that come with long lead times, my mattress was in stock and ready to go, so there was no dreaded 8-week wait.

I couldn’t make the original delivery date, but changing it was incredibly easy. Dusk’s delivery company sent me a WhatsApp message, and with a quick reply, I was able to suggest a more convenient day. On the day of delivery, the team called me about 30 minutes before arrival to let me know they were on their way, and they brought the mattress straight into the room of my choice.

Despite being king-sized, the mattress came neatly compressed in a box that didn’t take up much space. Once placed on my Dusk bed frame, it began to expand immediately. The entire setup was quick and hassle-free – exactly what you want when getting a new mattress. As the brand mentions in the product description, it took about 72 hours to fully inflate, but we had no trouble sleeping on it the very first night.

GLAMOUR road test: comfort and design

Dusk describes the Memory Foam 2,000 Pocket Sprung Hybrid Mattress as medium firm – and I have to agree. For me, it hits that perfect balance: not too firm, not too soft, and still gives that comforting feeling of sinking into bed after a long day.

It gently contours to my body, no matter how much I toss and turn at night, helping me wake up feeling rested. But it’s not just about the springs - the top knitted layer feels soft and durable, and the breathable grey fabric border around the base keeps things fresh and airy. One detail I really appreciate is that the cover is removable and machine washable, which makes it so much easier to keep everything clean and fresh.

What really makes this mattress stand out for me is the temperature regulation. Unlike an all-foam mattress, the hybrid design allows air to circulate through the coil support system, helping it stay cooler throughout the night. As a side sleeper - especially during pregnancy when I couldn’t sleep on my back – I needed something that would support my side without digging into pressure points or making me feel like I was sinking. This mattress strikes that balance beautifully.

Memory Foam 2,000 Pocket Sprung Hybrid Mattress review: the verdict

Having struggled with insomnia through much of my second trimester, I finally started getting comfortable, restful sleep once I switched to this mattress. The constant, nagging backache that used to wake me up has significantly eased.

I used to be a diehard fan of pocket-sprung mattresses and relied heavily on my pregnancy pillow for comfort, but this mattress has changed that for me. My body feels supported in ways I didn’t expect. Now, postpartum, I couldn’t be happier with it.

As for price, it’s surprisingly affordable - one of the best value options out there - and in my opinion, it easily competes with luxury mattresses that feature advanced sleep technology. Whether you’re pregnant or not, I can’t recommend this mattress enough.
