Five years ago if you'd told me all LED face masks were built equal, I'd have believed you. Having now tried the Keskine LED Light Therapy Face Mask Pro, though, I fear there's no going back.

I'm lucky enough that my career permits me to test the latest skincare gadgets and gizmos as they land on my desk (often before they even hit the stores/online market), so when my editor asked me to review this going-viral piece of tech, I didn't bat an eye. Until I opened the box.

Most LED face masks look relatively similar; Michael Myers from Halloween-esque. Keskine's looks more akin to a close-up photo of a butterfly's face. Cute…but an equal jump scare.

Before beginning my trial, I did some digging. Used consistently, the brand reckons you'll see clearer skin in two weeks with fewer breakouts, and smoother skin in four weeks with a firmer feel and fewer lines. All of the above sounded like a dream to my acne-prone, scarred and (nearly) 30 year-old skin – so I dug straight in.

How I tested the Keskin LED Light Therapy Face Mask Pro

Using the Keskin LED Light Therapy Face Mask Pro.

In order to give this a fair shot, I took the advice of the brand themselves and used the mask three times a week over the course of a month. For context, I have combination skin, hormonal acne and – as a result – lots of acne scarring. I also have hyperpigmentation and some dullness, so I went into this hoping to improve on more than a few areas.

At Glamour, we pride ourselves on providing readers with honest and detailed reviews of the products that we test – and the way I've tested the Keskin LED Light Therapy Face Mask Pro is no different to the way I've tried other LED devices (see my review for The Light Salon here). I scored against LED precision (clinically-proven wavelengths of light are key; the most clinically-proven wavelengths of light, 633 nanometers & 830 nanometers), coverage and fit (any gaps between the mask and face can reduce effectiveness). It's also worth noting that I didn't change anything else in my skincare routine during the testing period to ensure benefits I noted could largely be attributed to this treatment. You can find out more about how we test products at Glamour here.

Why you can trust me

I've worked at Glamour for just over five years now, and while my area of expertise is fashion, I'm fortunate enough that my beauty editor colleagues often ask me to help them review products. As a result, when writing up my thoughts, I get to speak to plenty of experts and dermatologists first-hand to get clued up on trending brands – Keskine being one of them – in the process, so rest assured you're in safe hands.

We also care about representation in our industry, so it's imperative to us as a team that we try things on a variety of different skin types, ages and races. As you can see in my videos and before and after pictures, I have vitiligo – a chronic autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) and causes white patches to appear across the body. While this mask, and any other LED face mask for that matter, won't affect my vitiligo whatsoever, it's nice to see people with real-life skin conditions in a world where looking ‘perfect’ is more prevalent than ever.

How does the Keskine LED Light Therapy Face Mask Pro work?

The Keskin LED Light Therapy Face Mask Pro is embedded with 352 LED bulbs, which emit four clinically recognised wavelengths: 1064nm (Infrared) to stimulate collagen production, 650nm (Red) to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, 590nm (Yellow) to reduce redness and calm skin, and 465nm (Blue) to clear acne and breakouts. It's been clinically tested on 33 people, and saw results reducing wrinkles by 28.9% and improving acne by 55% in 2 weeks.

Demonstrating the four modes.

Unlike a lot of other LED face masks, you can actually double-up and do back-to-back therapy modes with the Keskin LED Light Therapy Face Mask Pro. So rather than only opting for one 10-minute focus, you can create a 20-minute bespoke treatment. Obviously you can mix and match these every time you use it, which, as I had a long list of zones I wanted to target, is exactly what I did, but you'll likely see quicker results if you use one at a time for longer periods.

What's included in the box?

Inside the box you'll find:

  • The Keskin LED Light Therapy Face Mask Pro.
  • 1 USB to USB C charging cable.
  • The remote control.
  • 1 USB C to USB C cable to connect the remote to the mask.
  • A soft, adjustable head strap.
  • An extra padded eye shade.
  • The instruction manual.
  • A dust bag for safe storing.

My experience, results and final verdict

According to the instructions, you should use the mask on a clean, dry face with nothing more than a simple toner for moisture if you find that uncomfortable. This is so that the bulbs can fully penetrate every layer of your skin and provide their benefits evenly. I did exactly as advised and cleansed my face before each use, removing any dirt, makeup and oil that might otherwise prevent its effectiveness.

It was super easy to set up and, on my first use, was actually fully charged so I didn't even have to wait to use it. The little remote control attaches to the mask via a USB C to USB C cable, and to turn it on you simply hold down the power button before pressing the same button to settle on the treatment you require. Thanks to the padded eye shades, you can easily complete other tasks while it's on your face – I used it as an excuse to sit and read my book for 10 minutes – and the mirrored interior means that every area of your face (from your hairline and forehead to your jaw) is covered.

While the results of this mask are cumulative, and it goes without saying that you shouldn't expect to see immediate changes – if you're consistent with your treatments you absolutely will see a difference. Over the course of the month's trial I noticed a vast improvement in my hormonal spots and fine lines, and my skin definitely felt brighter and plumper – all of which you can see yourself in the above before and after pictures.

I would recommend this mask to anyone looking to invest in one, especially currently while it's on sale for £100 less than usual. I'm under no false illusions that this is an expensive piece of equipment, one which I was very fortunately gifted to write this review, but considering it has five more features than another popular LED face mask, and over double as many LEDs as some others, it's 100% worth it in my opinion. Would I buy it? Yes. Will I continue using it? Absolutely.
