The GLAMOUR team are a diverse bunch, moonlighting as mothers, athletes and foodie fanatics at weekends. As a result, they had no qualms about road-testing a selection of vegan proteins to see which would help them meet their fitness, health and nutrition goals.
Each willing volunteer was asked to consider each vegan protein powder's ease of use, efficacy — how long until they noticed a difference, if any at all — taste and value for money. “As individual vegan protein sources often do not include all the essential amino acids, opt for a blend of high-quality protein sources to give you a more complete nutrient intake,” recommends Crowley. “Look for vegan protein powders that contain no added sugar and are low in fat, to ensure that you’re getting the most bang-for-your-buck protein-wise.”
How should I be taking a vegan protein powder?
You've got options. Whether you decide to mix it with water or your chosen milk to create a shake or fry it into a protein-packed pancake, it's ultimately down to your tastes and available time.
“You can really incorporate a vegan protein powder into your diet however you wish,” urges Crowley. “The majority of people consume theirs by simply adding water / plant-based milk to create a delicious shake, or you can also add vegan protein powder into oats or as an ingredient in recipes. We highly recommend making some high-protein, vegan banana bread!”
