41 red carpet dresses we need to see this awards season
Brace yourselves, awards season is upon us, and with it, the red carpet dresses that will flood our feeds. The Golden Globes which takes place on January 5, celebrating this year's film and television hits will be the first of a two-month marathon of awards shows, culminating with the Oscars on March 3—and this season's red carpet is already shaping up to be a high-wattage affair.
The Golden Globes kick off awards season on 5th January.

The best-actress category across film and television alone boasts Hollywood's buzziest stars like Angelina Jolie (Maria), Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer), Ariana Grande (Wicked) and Zendaya (Challengers). In addition to their acting chops, these women are known to bring their A-game on the red carpet, and there's no shortage of stunning pieces from this year's runways to pull from.
While some ladies are sure to stick to their brand ambassadorships—we predict Nicole Kidman (Babygirl) will be in a custom, monochromatic Balenciaga gown, Margaret Qualley (The Substance), who walked the Chanel show, will likely be in a simple but pretty look by the French maison and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) will be in a short, Loewe dress, mark our words. Other screen sirens have certain designers they always turn to for marquee events, so don't be surprised if Cate Blanchett shows up in a striking, sharp-shouldered Armani Privé number. And, let's be honest, we're going to see our fair share of sheer dresses.
Nominees always get first dibs when plucking pieces straight off the runway, and while most fashion houses like Louis Vuitton and Dior tend to create bespoke pieces for their nominated talent, but many celebs now turn to the archives to find something unique that will likely make headlines. We'd love to see Zendaya, the queen of archival dressing, in another vintage find by her image maker Law Roach, but she will likely also be sporting some custom Jonathan Anderson looks thanks to the designer's costume partnership on the Challengers film (we're not complaining) or some Louis Vuitton as she is currently the face of the brand.

Often it's the newcomers on the scene who prove the most exciting to watch on the red carpet as they and their stylists craft their signature style while the award circuit unfolds. Greta Lee, for example, cemented herself as a rising fashion star thanks to all the Loewe looks that landed her on nearly every best-dressed list last year. What will Mikey Madison, the breakout actress of Anora be wearing for her first-ever Golden Globes? All eyes will be on Anna Sawai, the lead actress of FX series Shogun which swept up the most-ever Emmy Awards last year. Who will she choose to wear to claim her prize? And will Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo continue their pink-and-green streak from the Wicked press tour?
These are the real stories behind the women of Shogun – from their spectacular costumes to the true heroines they’re based on.

We'll find out soon enough. In the meantime, we've scoured recent haute couture and ready-to-wear catwalks for the pieces we're sure (well, we hope) our favourite stars will adopt on the red carpet this awards season. From an OTT Giambattista Valli tiered confection with Ari's name written all over it to a sculpted Harris Reed column perfect for Demi Moore, these are the dreamiest red carpet dresses ready for their close-up.
