So you’ve found your perfect party dress—from our handy guide to all the fashion insiders’ favourite brands no doubt (wink wink). Now it’s time to accessorise.
Finding the bag and heels (or flats!) to go with a festive frock is actually my favourite part, and one that, for me at least, sometimes requires even more deliberation because I’d want the accessory to match with many party looks for years to come.

Unlike your everyday accessories, when it comes to accessorising for the holidays, there’s no such thing as too much sparkle. In fact, the more OTT the bag, the more it could dress up even a simple slip dress, and same goes for the shoes. There’s a reason why Loewe’s silver bow sandals flew off shelves last Christmas.
The good news is, brands like Anya Hindmarch and Puppets and Puppets are serving plenty of tongue-in-cheek options for you to play with this season, from crisp packet clutches to rhinestone banana bags. Judith Leiber, the mother of all luxury collectable novelty clutches, makes stunning Swarovksi-encrusted bags in the shape of everything from cupcakes to swans more akin to pieces of art than bags.
A clutch in the shape of a polar bear with a top hat (yes it’s a real thing) not your cuppa tea? Fendi’s sequinned shoulder bags or even Lulu Guinness’ gift box clutch could just be the miss piece you need.
As for the perfect party shoes, this season, as we noted in our autumn/winter trends report, is all about textured pumps, so try on Jimmy Choo’s cherry red tinsel pumps for size. Fuzzy footwear, but make it Christmas! For the girlies opting for a fashionable mini dress, go for René Caovilla’s classic Symphony wrap-around sandals to add some drama to your dancing feet.
