Move over, black. Chocolate brown is currently all over our feeds as the trending hue for autumn and our favourite style stars are giving us plenty of inspo for how to wear it.
First came Dua Lipa who stepped out on a Friday date night at Chiltern Firehouse with boyfriend Callum Turner. The singer was spotted in the most luxurious brown midi dress with an asymmetric neckline. Most notably, she paired the sultry dress with boxy black clutch and minimalist sandals, putting to rest theories that black and brown don't mix.
Personally, that would be reason enough to go hunt down a lush, cocoa-coloured look. But just last week, Gigi Hadid wore our new favourite autumn ensemble, pairing a delicious hazel long cardi with matching tall stiletto boots, while boho-goddess Dakota Johnson demonstrated how to dress up in chocolate brown with a Gucci slip in muddy-brown silk.
It's easy to reach for the inky hues as temperatures drop and go back to the ‘safe’ colour choice of autumn/winter (AKA, black), but what we – and the internet – love about the rich brown tones is how expensive it could make an outfit look.
Thanks to its ‘in-between’ undertones of brick red and aubergine, it's a hue that can go with warm and cool tones alike, making it as versatile as black. We wouldn't be surprised to see it worn with punchy orange or sweet pastel pinks for the colour-block trend this autumn. It will also pair well with all the burgundy bags we're seeing take over street style and social media at the moment.
If quiet luxury were a colour, it would be white in the summer and this chocolate brown for autumn/winter – because these looks, while simple, scream *expensive*.

And let's be realistic… we'll be living in number 8.
