And one woman who was particularly unimpressed was English designer - and a favourite of both Markle's and Kate Middleton's - Emilia Wickstead... but not because she didn't like the dress. She, in fact, loved it so much that she has designed one herself. Before, it seems, Waight Keller did.

According to the Daily Mail, Wickstead said: "Her dress is identical to one of our dresses. Apparently a lot of commentators were saying, 'It’s an Emilia Wickstead dress'."

She apparently went on to say: "If you choose a simple design the fit should be perfect. Her wedding dress was quite loose."

Soon after the quotes broke, Wickstead took to her own Instagram page to release a statement.

"I am extremely saddened by commentary that has appeared in the press and online over the past few days," she wrote.

"Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Sussex looked absolutely beautiful on her wedding day and I have the utmost admiration and respect for her. I do not think that her wedding dress was a copy of any of our designs."

"I have the greatest respect for Clare Waight Keller and the House of Givenchy, a huge source of inspiration to me."

And while many didn't believe the designer's denial, Meghan Markle's seemingly understated LBD this week may have set the record straight once and for all, having been designed by Wickstead herself.
