Alessandro Michele, the brand’s Creative Director, often looks to the past for inspiration. The Seventies are a favourite decade for their retro appeal which translates perfectly into the lo-fi sneaker styles in Gucci’s trainer collection. Although because it’s Gucci, everything gets a fun and frivolous twist with sequins, florals, studs and rainbow panels.

The Ace is the most simple Gucci trainer shape while the 1977 Tennis range also has a pared back feel, although the colours and rainbow logo prints make them anything but basic.

Gucci has a history of quirky partnerships (last week Michele ‘hacked’ Balenciaga for a hybrid collection celebrating Gucci’s 100th anniversray) but the long term collaboration with Disney resulted in these super cute Donald Duck sneakers this season. Not all Gucci’s trainers are simple plimsolls though.
