Dior just dropped a heavenly collection of PJs, slides and blankets
2020 has been the year that loungewear became a thing (despite spellcheck still reducing it to ‘lounger’ every.single.time.) And as we shuffle from laptop to fridge, sofa then bed, living life within four walls - apart from those distant heady days of Summer when we could step outside in groups of six - has become rather… dull. That’s putting it mildly.
So without doing anything drastic, how can we add a little pizzazz to the truncated opportunities a WFH lifestyle entails? Like the rest of the country, we could treat ourselves to a pair of new PJs or update our loungewear looks. High end retailers, including Net-a-porter and Vestiaire Collective, reported an increase in loungewear sales of up to 70% during the first lockdown while Asos.com attributed their massive 329% rise in profits down to sales of affordable loungewear items.
But we’re not advising that you succumb to the thrill of a new tracksuit, only to discard it when we return to the outside world (here’s hoping, wishing, praying) sometime next year. Instead we urge you to find pieces that will last beyond a house-bound hiatus and become wardrobe staples for many seasons to come.
And with that remit in mind, Dior have come to our aid with a divine new collection of… loungewear. On paper loungewear and high end fashion are as odd a pairing as chalk and cheese but this collection could be the balm that soothes our frazzled lack of fashion opportunities.

Taking it a couple of steps beyond the cashmere tracksuits and velour hoodies we’ve been cocooning ourselves in on dress-up days, Dior have dedicated a capsule collection entirely to essentials designed to stay home in. And they are all heavenly. Literally. Rome-based artist Pietro Ruffo designed an exclusive pattern for the collection featuring zodiac motifs, speckled with stars and constellations, continents, flora and fauna which appear throughout the range.
Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri designed the collection during lockdown - or as it’s known in France, le confinement (doesn’t that sound chic?) Instead of being destined to become stained with coffee and lie in an unwashed heap on the floor, these exquisite items are meant to celebrate the art of living at home, elevate our everyday and bring some joy back into getting dressed. Even if you are wearing an elasticated waistband you can still Zoom in glorious style and wear these pieces beyond your front door when we are allowed.
