My honest Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter review
If there’s one beauty product I can’t live without, it’s Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter. As a beauty writer, I’ve tested my fair share of skin tints and foundations – from sheer and dewy to matte and full-coverage – but this glow-boosting multitasker has been a constant in my makeup bag since its launch back in 2018.
Whether I’m using it as a glowy primer, an all-over base, or a highlighter to make my cheeks pop, there’s never a time I don’t reach for this £39 icon. And with Black Friday right around the corner, there’s a good chance we’ll see it go on sale again (John Lewis has already dropped it to £31.20 – so keep your eyes peeled on other Charlotte Tilbury Black Friday deals).
I’ve never been a full-coverage foundation kind of girl. I like my skin to still look like, well, skin. That’s why this lightweight, glowy formula works so well for me. It evens everything out, adds a healthy glow and just makes me look that bit more awake. I keep two shades on rotation: 4.5 Medium, which has a soft pink undertone for winter, and 5 Tan for summer - a deeper shade that looks perfect once I’ve caught a bit of sun.

What is Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter?
In short, it’s part primer, part foundation, part highlighter – basically your skin, but brighter and glowier. You apply it to the places you need it most, and evens, blurs and gives you that dewy, lit-from-within glow Charlotte Tilbury is famous for. You can wear it solo, mix it with your base, or swipe it wherever you want a little extra radiance.
How I Tested Charlotte Tilbury’s Flawless Filter:
I’ve had Charlotte Tilbury’s Flawless Filter in my makeup bag since it launched back in 2018, so you could say this review has been years in the making. I’ve got fairly dry, slightly sensitive skin, and this has never once made me break out or clog my pores – which is rare for glowier formulas. I usually apply it straight after moisturiser with the doe-foot applicator, then blend it in using a brush or damp sponge. It gives me an instant healthy glow without feeling heavy, and even when it leaves me looking a bit too shiny, a light dusting of translucent powder tones it down perfectly. Whether I use it as a primer, foundation or highlighter, it always leaves my skin looking healthy and hydrated.
Why You Can Trust Me:
I’ve been a beauty journalist for over six years, so it’s safe to say I’ve tried just about everything - from foundations and primers to blushes and serums. When I test something new, I look at the formula first: does it actually do what it claims, and are the ingredients doing my skin any favours? I also consider the price, how it applies, wears, and layers with the rest of my routine.
And if something doesn’t work - whether it’s the texture, packaging or performance - I’ll always say so. My reviews are honest, so if I’m recommending it, it’s because it genuinely deserving of the hype.
My experience using the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter:
Seeing as I use this product pretty much every single day, it feels only right to give it the glowing review it deserves (pun intended). Even though it launched way back in 2018, nothing has managed to top it for me - nope, not even the e.l.f. Halo Glow. It’s my go-to for those no-makeup makeup days, and I love how it keeps my skin looking fresh and hydrated… even when I’ve definitely not drunk enough water.
Not only does Flawless Filter make your skin look good, but it's actually good for it too. It’s infused with squalane and glycerin to keep your complexion smooth and hydrated, giving that healthy glow without stripping away every ounce of moisture. I also love the oversized doe-foot applicator which makes it super easy to apply. I just dot it where I need it, blend it out with my trusty REFY brush, and I’m good to go.
I’ve found it works best with other cream and liquid formulas. For me, that’s usually the REFY Cream Bronzer paired with Rhode’s Pocket Blush on top. When I’ve tried using heavier foundations, I’ve noticed they can cling to dry patches or look cakey, but with Flawless Filter everything blends together seamlessly. If you’ve got oily skin, just keep in mind that the dewy finish can enhance shine - I tend to skip the areas that get the most oily (like between my brows and around my T-zone) or finish with a light dusting of Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder. If you prefer something with a more matte finish, Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Foundation is a great alternative.
Coverage-wise, it’s not designed to hide every blemish or dark circle - and honestly, that's partly why I love it so much. It smooths, evens and gives you a healthy glow - basically your skin, just better. My only real issue? The packaging. The red lettering tends to rub off over time and sometimes transfers onto my hands (and occasionally my face). Not ideal - but definitely not enough to stop me repurchasing.
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter Before & After Photos:
As you can see by my before and after photos, my skin looks glowier, brighter and more even after applying the product. My under-eyes look more awake, too. All of that without feeling like I'm wearing a complexion product at all? Sold.
