adidas Originals x ASOS Collection 03 is coming, and I got the exclusive low-down

There was a time when news of fashion collabs were few and far between, but adidas Originals x ASOS Collection 03 is coming and if, like me, nothing excites you more than two of your favourite brands uniting together, you'll be thrilled.
Yep, Collection 03 marks the third time the two houses have crossed paths, but the difference with this line-up? It's the best one yet.
ASOS kindly granted me access to a sneak in-the-flesh preview of the entire lookbook last week and I can wholeheartedly say; if you think the previous drops sold out fast, this one will be gone within an hour of launching.
Catching up with Vanessa Spence, Executive Vice President of Brand and Creative at ASOS, over an adidas Originals x ASOS-branded can of water (see the iconic fridge above), I asked her where the creativity for it all comes from.
“This drop was very much inspired by the '80s and '90s, which you'll see particularly within the silhouettes,” she said.
“The pink tracksuit co-ord, where you've got the slightly dropped shoulder and the balloon pants as well as the ruching detail…it has that nod to the '80s. Then you've got other pieces where it's a little bit cleaner, like the '90s, with a skirt laid over a trouser, the colour palette, the slight turtleneck,” she added.
And while, yes, each piece she speaks of is inherently retro – especially when worn together, hello windbreaker look – the beauty of them is that they can absolutely be worn separately (and styled to look more modern) too.
“It was really important for us to make sure that, across the whole, you've got something for everybody – whether you're the girl that will wear the little polka dot jacket with jeans or maybe someone who prefers a bolder, full satin moment, there's something for you,” Vanessa said.
“We took a lot of the learnings from Collection 01 and Collection 02 and were, very much, braver and bolder when it came to the shape and the fit of each design this time too,” Vanessa told me. “We'd had such good success and we could really see what our customers were leaning into and loving, and it was definitely those statement pieces, so we pushed that even further for Collection 03.”
One of the (many) things I adore ASOS for is its size inclusivity. I work closely with plus size model and writer Felicity Hayward, and as a tall girl myself, body positivity is a huge factor in everything I write about, so it was music to my ears when Vanessa expressed the fact that this launch would cater to all. From a size UK 4 to a UK 26, to be precise.
“It was really important that we had the same level of inclusivity within it we usually do,” said Vanessa. “It was amazing that we could bring this in while making sure the silhouettes would work for all body sizes too, without changing the designs in any way.”
Available to shop on the 16th April, the exclusive 27-piece line up takes inspiration from iconic adidas silhouettes and fuses it with ASOS' creative vision. Think street style with a sporty heritage.
Of course, adidas is no stranger to a collab (the recent Molly Mae collection and viral ASOS x adidas cowprint Sambas is proof of that) and neither is ASOS, so the ongoing relationship between the two global fashion destinations is match made in heaven – one I hope never ends.
Unlike Collection 01, which saw the brands take over a street in London for a runway show preview, and Collection 02, which was exclusively debuted at an event in Manchester before going live online, adidas Originals x ASOS Collection 03 will also be available to shop in-store at the adidas London flagship as well as asos.com.
“Drop 3 of our partnership with ASOS marks a significant step forward in bringing the collaboration into a physical retail environment,” adidas commented. “By launching the new collection at our London flagship, we are building on the momentum of previous releases while elevating the partnership into a more integrated, immersive brand experience for our consumers.”
Prices will range from £40-£130 in sizes XS-XXL, and if you're wondering what to make a beeline for, I asked Vanessa what she thinks will sell out first. “The polka dot peplum jacket definitely,” she said, while sat opposite me wearing it styled with barrel leg jeans and Chanel pumps. “Spots are the moment, there's a big trend, and the colour makes it so versatile.”
And PSA on the notion of things selling out; once they're gone, they're gone. Those trusty ASOS re-stock notifications won't come in clutch where this collection is concerned. It's a limited edition drop, folks. Don't say I didn't warn you.
