How I choose the best 21st birthday gifts:

Being one of six, I'm used to buying gifts — not only for my siblings, but also joint presents for our parents, considering no one else wants the responsibility. But my professional experience is as follows: I've been a commerce writer for three years, and a gift guide writer for two. I regularly attend press days, interview shopping experts and spend hours personally testing products against their designers' claims.

Essentially, you can also be reassured that only products and brands I genuinely love and would recommend to friends make it into the Glamour Gift Shop.

But when reviewing products — this includes viral beauty, new-in clothing, seriously aesthetic homeware and the latest wellness gadgets — I rate each product against the following criteria:

DesignIs it practical, fit for purpose and aesthetic?
Price pointWould I be willing to spend that much? Is it good quality?
DeliveryHow quickly did it arrive, and what were the associated costs?
GiftabilityWould this make a suitable birthday or Christmas gift? Is it something the recipient actually wants, needs and would enjoy?

Why you can trust me:

For the last three years, my work week has consisted of reviewing new launches and long-standing bestsellers before writing up my findings. That includes everything from new sexual wellness launches to running trainers, menstrual products such as period pants and thousands of gifts.

But to ensure I'm an expert in the above areas, I regularly attend press days and quiz shopping experts for their recommendations. I also keep up to date with what's trending (yes, this means spending hours on TikTok) to recommend appropriate presents for your in-the-know Gen Z-er.

In case you need a little more convincing: in December, I was asked to share my tips live on Radio 4, where I suggested we collectively skip a restock of socks in exchange for a DIY gift hamper or bucket list experience gift. As a result, you could say I am more of an expert on the subject of shopping and gift-giving than your average online shopper.
