Among the beauty aficionados, the ZIIP Halo device is often regarded as one of the most effective skincare tools around, and deservedly so. In fact, it's also garnered quite the reputation among A-listers, too, having become a favourite of Margot Robbie and Jennifer Aniston.
Created by aesthetician and the ZIIP founder Melanie Simon, this clever microcurrent device promises a plethora of benefits — from stimulating collagen production and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles to delivering a near-instant tightening effect as well as encouraging the skin's natural radiance.
On paper, that sounds like a pretty sweet deal. That said, as a beauty journalist who's tested practically every skincare tool under the sun (LED face masks, gua sha and radio-frequency tools — you name it), I've also reviewed my fair share of microcurrent devices with similar claims. And truth be told? Very few have managed to impress me.
Now, what truly piqued my interest was the technology behind it. As it stands, it's the only microcurrent device on the market with up to 26 different electrical combinations – all powered by both microcurrent and nanocurrent intensities that work in tandem to boost the skin's health on a cellular level.
Naturally, professional curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to put the ZIIP Halo tool to the ultimate test — having committed to using it consistently for a whole month. So without further ado, let's dive in.
ZIIP Halo review: at a glance
- Testing period: 4 weeks.
- Frequency of use: 3-5 times a week.
- Technology: Microcurrent & nanocurrent.
- Key benefits: Delivers a firming and tightening effect that lifts facial contours, boosts the skin's radiance, and promotes ATP and collagen production.
- Suitable for sensitive skin? Yes, the currents are gentle enough.
- Quick verdict: I think it's a genuinely effective skincare tool that redefines microcurrent technology (easily the best one I've tried to date). Its ability to deliver an impressive firming effect and boost my skin's glow is unmatched, and it's super intuitive to use too.
Product deep dive
At first glance, the ZIIP Halo tool may not appear all that different from your usual skincare gadgets. The design is sleek and palm-sized, making it easy to hold and manoeuvre around the contours of the face. The two rounded silver globes conduct the electrical currents, while the metallic finish gives it that elevated, futuristic feel you'd expect from a luxury skincare device.
It's powered by both microcurrent and nanocurrent waveforms — designed to treat the skin on a cellular level. Essentially, the microcurrent is aimed to deliver a near-instant toning and lifting effect by gently stimulating the facial muscles, while the subtle nanocurrent works deeper to stimulate ATP production (the vital energy source responsible for healthy skin cell function).
To get started, I went ahead and downloaded the ZIIP app, which allows you to make use of various plans, depending on your goals and preferred level of intensity. From the 6-minute “Instant Gratification” treatment that promises to deliver an immediate glow and lifting effect to “Brow Lift”, “Plump” and “De-Puff” options, there's no shortage of ways to customise your at-home facials as you see fit. I love that once you select your preferred treatment, the device links automatically, and you follow a guided step-by-step video until the timer runs out – the whole experience is totally seamless (even for beginners).
GLAMOUR Road Test: My experience using the ZIIP Halo
After applying a generous layer of the ZIIP Electric Complex Gel, I selected the “Brow Lift” option, which lasts a total of three minutes. Right off the bat, I was pleased by how gentle the currents felt — there's a slight tingle, but nothing uncomfortable. Initially, I was worried that my sensitive skin wouldn't be a great fit for this, but I'm glad to confirm that I didn't experience any flare-ups or irritation whatsoever.
What's more, I loved how relaxing the whole process was from start to finish. The globes added a nice cooling sensation, and with varied pressure applied onto the skin, the facial massage felt nice and soothing on the skin (which is probably why I opted to use the tool as part of my nighttime skincare regimen).
I also opted for the “Best Skin Of Your Life In 30 Days” plan, which included various treatments while accounting for rest days. Committing to this plan meant that I didn't have to overwhelm myself with the sheer pressure of having to pick treatments from a menu — all I had to do was to set reminders for myself to actually go through with each session. This plan focused on everything from glow-boosting treatments to those that were focused on specific areas such as eyes, brows and jowls.
What surprised me most was that I was genuinely able to see the results even after the first session. My complexion was visibly glowier, the lift was subtle but definitely noticeable. But after week three, the results were more obvious. My jawline appeared more defined, my cheeks looked firmer, my brows looked visibly lifted, and above all, the overall state of my skin was unmatched by the time the month was finished. My skin was plumper, skin tone more even, and the glow was evident even when I didn't put any moisturiser or face serums.
What I loved most is that, unlike other skincare tools I've used in the past, this device doesn't just throw you into the deep end. Instead, it guides you every step of the way. The in-app routines help you keep consistent with the routine, and the movements are seamless enough to replicate without having to visit YouTube and watch countless tutorials. Another perk that I enjoyed is how compact it is, making it ideal for travelling (especially since it's fully rechargeable through USB-C).
The verdict
Yes, while £380 is a steep investment, considering the innovative technology and the results that back the ZIIP Halo device, I'd say that it's the tool on the market that gets you closest to experiencing in-clinic microcurrent facials from the comfort of your home. It goes way beyond simply defining the contours of your face — it works hand-in-hand with your skincare to care for your skin's long-term health too. Long story short: between the fuss-free guided in-app video sessions and the device's compact build to the actual results that it can deliver, it's a truly clever piece of tech that would be great for anyone looking to up their skincare regimen.
