There's no doubt about it, TV shows in the winter certainly up their game. We need something that takes our mind off the shorter days and lower temperatures after all.
Season 4 of the Netflix period drama is set to drop in early 2026, and Yerin will star as romantic lead Sophie.

From the new season of Wednesday to the upcoming conclusion of Stranger Things, there's something for everyone this season. And if you haven't watched Keira Knightley as a vengeful spy in Black Doves, do it ASAP.

Wednesday
Jenna Ortega returned this year with a second instalment of the Addams Family Netflix spin-off, Wednesday. With a Lady Gaga cameo (see above) and Billie Piper taking a new teaching role at Nevermore, this new series is not to be missed this snuggly season.
Stranger Things
After 9 years, the epic story of Hawkins is finally coming to an end. Part one of series five drops at the end of November, so make sure you make time to rewatch the previous season before our showstopping ending arrives.
The Girlfriend
If you've not watched The Girlfriend already, what have you been doing? Robin Wright's directorial project stars herself as overbearing-yet-chic mum Laura, who is immediately suspicious of her son's new girlfriend, “femme fatale” Cherry, played by Olivia Cooke. What follows is a bloody battle of wills for the love of one man.
The Road Trip
The latest TV adaptation of bestselling author Beth O'Leary's chick lit novels is not to be missed. As suggested in the show's title, we're going on a road trip to a Spanish wedding, involving two exes, a straight-talking sister and a resentful friend. Oh, and a random tagalong. Starring Emma Appleton (Everything I Know About Love), David Jonsson (Rye Lane), Laurie Davidson, Isabella Laughland and Angus Imrie, this is the rom-com series you need over the colder months.
Black Doves
Keira Knightley's big return to TV is something special – set during Christmas time in London, her new series Black Doves allows her to become a vengeful spy who is passing on government secrets from her politician husband to the secret organisation that she works for. We definitely love this role for Keira. After her character Helen's lover is murdered by an unknown party, we see her go to extraordinary lengths to avenge him, as well as protect her family from a dark presence. Also stars Happy Valley star Sarah Lancashire and Paddington's Ben Whishaw.
Cruel Intentions
Loved the 1990s cult classic film, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar? Get ready for an updated TV adaptation of the story. Set at an American university instead of the Upper East Side, we see the return of our favourite characters from the Cruel Intentions movie, with a bit of a modern twist. Caroline Merteuil rules the school, and tasks her stepbrother Lucien Belmont with seducing the new girl at school Annie Grover – who is the daughter of the Vice President of the United States, no less.
Landman
With a stellar cast including Demi Moore, Mad Men's Jon Hamm, Billy Bob Thornton and Ali Larter, Landman – based on the podcast Boomtown – is set in the heart of Texas, where many try to get rich quickly in the oil industry. Season 2 drops on 16 November.
Rivals
Based on Jilly Cooper's novel of the same name and with an awesome cast including David Tennant, Emily Atack, Danny Dyer, Bella MacLean, Nafessa Williams and Alex Hassell, Rivals drops us into the dog-eat-dog world of TV. Season two is coming, likely in 2026, with filming beginning earlier this year.
Bad Sisters
This black comedy series follows the story of a group of Irish sisters who conspire to kill their abusive brother-in-law with surprisingly hilarious consequences. Starring Sharon Horgan, Eve Hewson, Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle and Sarah Greene the second series sees the aftermath of this abuse and murder (attempted and otherwise), with legend Fiona Shaw joining the ranks.
Nobody Wants This
Nobody Wants This is one of the biggest rom-coms of 2024 and 2025, arguably. And the second season has just dropped. Starring The OC star Adam Brody and Veronica Mars herself, Kristen Bell, we see an agnostic dating podcaster meet an unassuming rabbi and question what it is she is looking for in love. It's adorable, it's funny, and it also stars Succession's Justine Lupe.
The Diplomat
Keri Russell plays a US diplomat in the UK navigating international crises and her ailing marriage to a fellow ambassador (played by Scoop star Rufus Sewell). Also starring Allison Janney and Rory Kinnear, expect lots of political (and personal) drama and some pretty gorgeous British filming locations. Season 3 has just dropped – get stuck in!
Heartstopper
Adapted from Alice Oseman's gorgeous comics about two schoolboys meeting and falling in love, Heartstopper is one of the most wholesome things on Netflix. Starring Joe Locke, Kit Connor and Yasmin Finney, it tells the stories young people need of falling in love, queerness and growing up.
Slow Horses
One of the biggest sleeper hits of 2024, Apple's Slow Horses tells the story of a group of misfit and disgraced MI5 agents, starring Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas.
Only Murders In The Building
Starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short, this award-winning series begins with a grisly death inside an exclusive Upper West Side apartment building. An unlikely trio suspect murder and uses their knowledge of true crime to investigate the truth.
Emily in Paris
A great one to watch on the sofa any time of year, particularly when you need an escape from the dreary winter nights. Starring Lily Collins and Ashley Park, we see an American expat frolicking through Paris's social scene and its marketing world, making friends and making romantic messes along the way. A new series of the addictive show drops on 18 December, just in time for Christmas.
Industry
Season one of Industry sees five graduates fight it out for a permanent position at the London office of a reputed investment bank, Pierpoint & Co, with additional drama following for two more seasons. Starring Marisa Abela and Myha'la, with Game of Thrones star Kit Harington joining for the latest (third) season.
Squid Game
The huge 2021 hit is back for a second season this Christmas. For the uninitiated, hundreds of cash-strapped people enter a competition to win money – only to discover after the games are underway that the stakes are more deadly than they could've imagined.
The Perfect Couple
Based on the bestselling novel by Elin Hilderbrand and boasting the most fabulous cast – including Nicole Kidman, Dakota Fanning and Meghann Fahy – The Perfect Couple is an addictive murder mystery set in the world of the rich and fabulous.
Mr Loverman
Based on Bernadine Evaristo's novel of the same name, this BBC TV series tells the story of a closeted older man who shocks many people in his life by ending his marriage after having an affair with his male best friend.
The Day of the Jackal
Starring Lashana Lynch and Eddie Redmayne, settle in for a compelling cat-and-mouse story where an MI6 agent, Bianca, obsessively pursues an elusive assassin called the Jackal, who has been offered his riskiest job yet. One that might pay him enough to get him out of the game for good. Will Bianca catch him in time?
Sweetpea
Dubbed as a “coming of rage” story, Sweetpea sees Ella Purnell stars as a wallflower who is tired of the way she is treated by the world. In response, she develops a taste for murder as revenge. A delicious and twisted black comedy that perfectly encapsulates female rage. Series two is in the works, so watch series one ASAP.
Disclaimer

Agatha All Along
A spellbinding Wanda-Vision spin-off starring Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza and Heartstopper's Joe Locke. From this absolute Marvel treat, expect magic, queer energy and a lot of witches. Perfect fodder for a sofa day.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story
Get ready to be intrigued and repulsed. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is the second season of the American true crime TV series Monsters, this time focusing on Lyle and Erik Menendez, who murdered their parents.
