Warning: The Trigger Point season 3 has not aired on ITV yet, but for those who have watched all episodes or aren't spoiler averse, please read on.
National treasure Vicky McClure is back on our screens once more, teaming up with once again with Line of Duty and Bodyguard's Jed Mercurio, for series 3 of Trigger Point, which follows a group of bomb disposal officers, known as EXPOs, as they are tasked with preventing explosive threats and terrorist attacks around London.
This time around, it seems that the threat in question is personal. Someone is out for revenge, targeting specific characters for their previous wrongs.
On her character Lana's journey in series 3, Vicky McClure herself has said: "She's not coping. Lana is a strong individual, and she prides herself on perfectionism, but I believe we quickly see that facade beginning to shatter. We're aware from the previous two series that she has endured significant loss, which was inevitably going to catch up with her, and this is the onset of it.
“So we will be addressing PTSD, alongside her struggle with tinnitus, and her reliance on medication for support. She's quite an isolated character at the start of the series.”
Here is Glamour's round-up of noteworthy Trigger Point season 3 spoilers and the ending unpacked. Brace yourselves.
Trigger Point season 3 ending explained
Lana and her team have been pursuing serial killer Steven Wyles (Jason Flemyng) throughout the series, and the final episode sees their mission come to a dramatic head.
It transpires that he is avenging the deaths of his colleagues at a construction firm in the 1990s, who developed cancer years later after working on the Coldmarsh project. They weren’t told the buildings they were demolishing were packed with deadly asbestos, which led to them all contracting nasty illnesses. It seems that Steven has as well, as we see him having coughing fits and struggling to breathe.
His ultimate plan, after systematically killing everyone he believed to be involved in the cover-up, to avenge his friends, was to blow up a building with the CEO he believed was responsible inside, also killing himself in the process.
We answer every question you have about *that* finale.

But a twist comes in episode 5 when it is discovered that his own brother, Isaac, was involved in the conspiracy. Upon discovering this, he strangles the CEO and goes to strike Lana with a fire extinguisher in an attempt to escape and find and confront his brother.
As the final episode opens, we see that he doesn't strike Lana, only sprays her with the extinguisher and manages to flee the building.
We also see concern around Lana's constant painkiller use and mental health, but she quickly dismisses Sonya (Kerry Godliman) when she raises it, insisting: “It’s hardly Trainspotting, it’s not like I’m an addict.” Still, Sonya suggests she quit.
What happened to Isaac?
Steven makes his way to his brother Isaac's lavish home (now finally understanding how he can afford it, being part of a huge corporate cover-up and presumably being paid handsomely for it).
The truth begins to unfold. Isaac was meant to make sure the workers had a safe environment to operate in as a union rep, but instead, he was bought off by the construction firm which led to the workers being exposed to asbestos.
When Lana and the team arrive at the house, Steven is holding Isaac and his wife hostage in a car. He then forced Isaac to drive him to the site of a former hospital, which was also the first building that was demolished as part of the Coldmarsh project.
He wanted Isaac to confess, and put pressure on him by locking Isaac's wife in the car with an explosive device attached to it. Steven then tied a load of explosives to his brother and gave Isaac a dead man’s switch trigger device. When Lana reached Isaac, though, Stephen had vanished.
Then, the really heartbreaking truth is revealed – Stephen believes that the entire situation is what killed his wife, who also died of cancer. He believes she developed the fatal condition because of the asbestos fibres on his clothes when he worked at the construction firm. “I loved her more than anything in the world and I killed her,” he said.
When Stephen took his finger off the detonator, it didn't go off. He explained that the explosive was never intended to kill Isaac or his wife, it was intended to kill him instead. Things escalated when Isaac accused Stephen of killing his wife. Eventually, he released the button, detonating and killing Stephen, just as Isaac's wife was found safe in the car boot. Isaac was then led out of the building, arrested for Stephen's murder.
The question of Lana leaving is also wrapped up at the end of the series. She reveals she is seeing a therapist for her PTSD and tinnitus but is not leaving. At a team barbecue, she toasts Rich, whose PTSD ultimately led to his untimely death when he cut the wrong wire on an explosive device due to his own trauma. We see Lana's family move away, but she stays put to continue with the job.
