Trainspotting was released NINETEEN years ago (God, we're old) and had a cast and soundtrack that epitomised 90s cool (apart from, you know, the whole heroin addiction bit) - Pulp songs, bleached hair and one of the most famous movie monologues of all time. Plus, this poster, that appeared on any self-respecting late-90s student wall.
So with news that Trainspotting director Danny Boyle's next film will be an original-cast-starring sequel (based on Irvine Welsh's 2002 book Porno), we started wondering how they're going to shift the action to a post-internet, post SNP-majority Edinburgh.

Then: Renton steals Tommy's homemade VHS sextape by swapping it in the case with 100 Great Goals.Tommy's girlfriend then dumps him, thinking he's taken their bluemovie back to the video shop (remember them??).
Now: Renton hacks an iPhone and leaks naked-pic sexts on to a revenge porn site
Then: The film opens with the boys robbing the (now defunct) newsagent John Menzies
Now: With the first Tesco Express opening in 1994 and there now being one approximately every twenty metres, chances are they'd be nicking fags and booze from there.
Then: The 'Choose Life' monologue includes the phrase 'Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers.'
Now: Not to do down electrical tin openers, but it's hardly the height of cutting edge technology anymore. It would have to include Renton's opinion on binge-watching Netflix, Instagram and streaming music - seriously who has a CD player?
