The Watcher Is The Perfect Netflix Show To Watch This Halloween
NETFLIX

The Watcher is set to be the biggest and scariest show of the upcoming spooky season and will most definitely have you hiding under the covers during the autumn and winter months.

In the latest television deal between American Horror Story's Ryan Murphy (the man behind the Evan Peters starring Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story) and streaming service Netflix, The Watcher is set to land just in time for Halloween.

The limited series will feature seven episodes, which will all hit Netflix in one go, and follows the story of a suburban family in New Jersey who are sent a series of threatening letters signed by "The Watcher" after moving into their new home. And even creepily enough, the story is based on a true story! Eeek!

Bobby Cannavale, who stars in Blonde, and Noami Watts star in key roles in this series, and the teaser is enough to promise us a very spine-chilling watch. So if you want to know more about Murphy's The Watcher, GLAMOUR has you covered.

What happens in The Watcher?

The Brannock family happily move into their new dream home in suburban New Jersey. However, things soon take an eerie turn when they receive ominous letters from someone referring to themselves as "The Watcher." As the family attempts to get to the bottom of the letters, their neighbourhood's dark secrets come to the forefront.

What true story is The Watcher based on?

The real-life story is based on the Broadduses, who purchased their dream home in a New Jersey suburb in 2014, but received a threatening letter from someone called "The Watcher" before they even moved in. Over the years, they received more menacing letters referring to their children as "young blood," and subsequent letters became more threatening.

Disturbingly, private detectives and police officers have yet to identify The Watcher, but neighbours and the Broadduses themselves have been suspected as the culprit.

The family sold their home in 2019 for $959,000 after originally purchasing it for $1.3 million. The Netflix adaptation is based on the 2018 New York Magazine article by Reeves Wiedeman.

Who stars in The Watcher?

Cannavale and Watts star as married Dean and Nora Brannock, while Luke David Blumm and Isabel Gravitt play their children Carter and Ellie. The series also stars Jennifer Coolidge, Richard Kind, Margo Martindale and Mia Farrow.
